Phil Foden - 2017/18 performances

Nah, taking Foden away from goal to sit deep in a pivot role would be awful. He's a proper goalscorer that will score 15+ a year, easy. That is absolutely invaluable and you'd be mad to move him away from that. Pep will make him one of the free 8s I think.

I've also never seen him once play in a deep role for the EDS/u16s and u18s so not sure what you're basing that on tbh mate!
He played derp in the first(?) pre season friendly in usa.,altho didnt resrict himself to that position as his natural ability meant thst he influenced proceedings over a greater area of the pitch..in the same way that fernandhino was able to combine being the first port of reference to the ball playing centre halvex by being an out let,yet still be on hand to slip a defence sp,itting pass to nto a very dangerous area for Sane to score from last sat...and,also finish and score goals like the Brazilian has done so effectively this season.
As you will be aware, starting positions for a lot of Peps team can often be somwhat nominal for many as their easy interaction and intelligent movement around the pitch brings them naturally and instinctvly into the 'right' areas,at the 'right' time...
And,you may say a pre season friendly is no measure of a players ability but our manager was suitably impressed by the player to wax lyricial about him following that first game which,if you recall was played at a pulsating pace in front of a capacity crowd and Fodens effective passkng game was instrumental in adding to the good performances of several other players, whicj, imo, is a marker for a young plyer of how suitable they might be for integretion into first team football.
FwIW..i albo believe this is where he should start for england senior team, asap ,when he inevitably breaks thru,as the last time i saw england play, there was an almost shocking incompatibility between the ball playing centre halves,ie Stones, and the leaden footed ,low-in -technique deep lying crntre midfielders ...who seemed clueless and almost caught out when presented with the ball from the back by virtue of a short pass.they did not know what to do with the ball.playing Foden deep,at least intially may give him that extra second of time and space to orchestrate, rather like vintage Yaya, and away from the hezvy tackling attention he would inevitability attract in top class senior football should he start further up yhe pitch; just my thoughts on the issue...

If England are to develop this short passing game that gareth fraudiola is encouraging, then Foden, imo,is insrumental in carrying out the 'master -plan'
And it may be more appropriate to play him there gor City as he learns the ropes.

I don't think Foden played deep that day at all. It was against United and he was playing as an advanced number 8 and was supporting the forwards wherever he could.

Personally I think his control and movement with the ball are more effective when closer to goal.
And you may well be right...
I am certainly no expertin football posistional play..its what i instinctvly feel based upon what i observe...
Basically id be happy for Foden to be break into the City team asap,..and the full england squad for the World cup Finals at the end of the season.
Michael Owen,Raheem Sterling and Giggs didnt appear to suffer from being played in top class football at a very early age...

Watch the Youtube video of the pre-season game against the Rag's. He made Herrera look like a Sunday League clogger.

Foden is a cracking prospect and is more than capable of playing an active role this season.

I remember him knocking the ball about midfiekd to all areas of the pitch, with instinctive first time passes...often from derp posistions...could it have been the second game..real madrid?
IAnyway .as stated above id just like to see him in our first team. And Englands, asap

Just watched a ten min re run on u tube, and during that time,in which Foden featured heavily,he was def playing an advanced role.my apologies..i must have imagined it, or it was the next match,i watched them both live at the time....

no worries mate! We both want the same thing anyway :)

Foden game time! He's a phenomenal young talent.

Definitely!
I have prob let my opinion/recollections become highly influenced by the mess i saw the full england team become recently embroiled in ,when trying to play out from thd back, and imo how Foden could help them, from a deeper ,midfield role starting posistion.
He certainly sedms disciplined enough ,composed enough, orgsnised eough and confident enough to carry out a range of roles in any team, the mark of a truly highly talented individual . He appears to take the hustle and bustle of midfield play completely in his stride
Watching his integretation into either City or Englands first team will clearly (hopefully)be a fascinating sideline for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

I am genuinely intrigued to see what the two Guardiolas,Pep and Gareth, have lined up for our home grown youngster, given the obvious disparity between the two coaches experience and abilities.
He is obviously rated extremely highly by Pep and several seasoned, highly experienced fellow international team mates,a point exhibted by how they trust him with the ball in tight situations during match play, and accentuated by his willingness to take the ball off them, and make things happen.

Foden is a 10,thats where he plays his best football and thats where he should be deployed and developed,if all falls into place he could be a megastar in the role.
