There certainly won't be any pressure when he's not even on the bench for most games.

God forbid an 18 year old ended up on the bench every week, there's no chance he could take it. Everyone knows you need to be at least 19 or 20 before that's an option.
Rrally?
Check out the early careers of Francis Lee Glynn pardoe Tommy Caton Trevor Francis
Rooney Pele Bell Nicky Reid Michael Owen etc etc.
Age itself is no barrier. So stop quoting age as if it's some unwritten coaching manual rule preventing players from carving out successful careers after making their debuts in their teens.

Think he’s joking mate!

This idea that certain players are first in line is not something that will hold any sway with Pep.
You play well and train well and have a good attitude and you will play. If any of those stop, you will not.
I expect Foden and Bernardo to compete on almost equal terms with some of the more stellar names this season. It's going to be very interesting.
I tend to agree with this.
Pep has no time for favourites. Last season was last season. It's entirely down to form not names with our manager.

Well missing out on Jorginho might be a blessing if Phil gets more games. In many ways he’s like a new signing. I wonder if he’ll get the nod at Arsenal?

Indeed. Both him, Diaz and Mendy are all arriving to the party having been only a small part of things last season. Aymeric and Bernardo will also bring a lot more than last year and, as the squad matures, I see things getting better and better.

The problem with this line is that Phil is never going to be outperforming KDB or Silva. No 18 year old in the world ever will unless those two are playing at about 30%.

If you adopt a "best players play" stance you'll never play kids because they aren't going to be better than 2 of the 5 best players in the world in that position. It might work at the bottom of the league when you've got a bright prospect competing with journeymen who've got nothing to play for, but not at this level.

Giving Foden, or any kid that talented, game time this season is an investment. He's not as good now, he will make mistakes, but you play him because you're developing a player who could be KDB/Silva good.
