Great to see him start and a great test. Hoffenheim have an excellent manager who is tactically very intelligent and the first half showed their ability to cause us problems. Whilst we still had a bucket load of chances they were from set pieces mainly and Foden struggled to find the space he needed to influence the game. In the second half the nerves had settled and he was better. The skill to intercept, twist past the opposing player then pass into Sane was brilliant before he put the burners on to drift into space for Sterling to pick him out. And what a volley, really wish that had have gone in! Good for him to play in a much changed but still relatively strong side, and asaume with injuries we will see more of him over the next few weeks which will help his confidence and perdormances at this level.

Whilst we are in 4 comps he needs to start some matches.

Probably biased but I thought he was braver than Gündogan who played quite safe passes at times. First half didn’t track back a few times or over did it a sprawled on the floor, missing the man. Overall in a meaningful game against decent European opposition Foden showed he’s more than good enough for us.

Tried a bit too hard in the first half, calmed down, got a foothold in the game and was brilliant in the second. either side of the keeper and he'd have scored a lovely volley too. He'd have learnt a lot from this game as we had something to play for so this and Chelsea in the shield(though a glorified friendly) are probably the only times he's felt it on himself to perform. And both times he's done well.

First half would have been a blur as he was being controlled by Adrenaline.Second half suggests he had been sat down at HT and he'd been given some excellent advice.

He showed Europe what we have been banging on about.

If that volley had gone in it would've been one of those moments you'll remember for the rest of your life. Needs to start some PL games now, he's definitely ready and I think after his display in the second half that Pep will now trust him more.

I don't even think it's about that halftime 'advice' although surely he will have had some, I think it's just an example of what happens with many young players.

If they play, they have the burst of headless enthusiasm, sometimes resulting in brilliance, sometimes the opposite, then they sometimes can overplay being too safe & ineffective then they can start to settle down & become themselves.

Foden went from a 5 out of 10 to being on his way to a '9'. Imo simply because he was on the picth, & getting used to it.

If he plays more regularly, we will still see a mixed bag game to game, but we will see the '8' or '9' more often, than if he only plays occasionally.
