Philippines

Looks great, I was planning on visiting this year but doubtful now with covid restrictions.

Enjoy Bali next year, think I went at least 6 times last couple of years and probably haven't seen 80% of it. If you haven't been before and want any info/tips give us a shout.

Cheers mate.

I've been once before but it was way back in 2010 and it was just a week in Kuta at the end of some backpacking round Australia/NZ. So in reality I've not really been haha.

Gonna be so nice to finally return, feels like its been a long time in the making; only got 12 nights so doing 5 in Ubud on arrival, 5 in Sanur and the last 2 on Nusa Lembongan. I'm pretty much set on the itinerary as I've got some amazing hotels at very good prices (and flights already paid for) but certainly open to suggestions on best things to see/do, particularly in Ubud. Have a general idea of the things I wanna do but equally don't wanna overload the itinerary with trips and tours so would be interested to know what you think are the 'must see/do' activities.

You might struggle to get to Philippines this year but I'd urge you to go at the earliest opportunity. With hindsight I wish I'd gone many years ago instead of the generic Thailand holidays.

No worries mate. Most of my trips have just been short ones on days off from work (3.5 hr flight from here) so I've nearly always been seminyak based . I have spent a couple of trips in Ubud though and its a fantastic place. It's not particularly pretty and nowhere near the beach but it has a certain feel to the place that gets under your skin. I stayed at a fantastic place called the sri bungalows, was around $100 aud per night and had 2 balconies, the front overlooked an infinity pool and the back over rice paddies, best place i've stayed anywhere in the world for the money. Need to book a bungalow though and not a room. Whilst in Ubud try and book a driver for the day (approx $60 AUD) and get them to take you to the local temples and waterfalls. Theres an active volcano (Batur) fairly nearby and you can have your lunch overlooking it, or walk up it if you're so inclined. I can give you the WhatsApp details of a driver I used for my tours and picking up from the airport if you need it. Make sure you research the local coffee called luwak before you drink it :)

Only visited Sanur once and it seemed a nice quiet family type place. A lot of the aussies I know now goto the next island called Lombok which they say is like Bali years ago before the tourists hit, might be worth a look!

Not sure I'm brave enough to drink coffee made from shit haha

5 nights in Ubud but only 4 days as it's late arrival from UK, definitely want to do the sunrise volcano trek and was thinking of hiring a driver on another day to cram a full day tour in for the things I wanna see. Would leave a couple of days spare of which I'll certainly be looking to enjoy the hotel/resort I'm staying in, got a villa with a private infinity pool overlooking some jungle/forest (bargain price too)

Picked Sanur as I wanted some time on the beach after Ubud. Already done Kuta, didn't fancy Nusa Dua as heard it's a bit manmade and not much going on beyond the hotels, so it was a toss up between Seminyak/Legian and Sanur.
In the end the deal I have on the Fairmont hotel in Sanur won over. Heard good things about the area and that it's a little more traditional than other areas. Sadly I'm too old for the party scene so all I need these days is a nice beach and a few bars :)

I did look at Lombok, and the Gili Islands, but they might have to be done on a separate trip in the future as was getting a little congested/complex to cram either in for the last 2 nights.

Nusa Lembongan seemed a good fit; only 30 mins speedboat from Sanur which is ideal for the final leg.
Found a good priced hotel that only has 5 units, with incredible views back towards Bali. Will look to do some snorkelling there, inbetween enjoying another infinity plunge pool.

I'm a total peasant but the value in Bali means you can get these incredible properties for what you'd pay for a Travelodge in London.
