Phone lights during match

Building bigger and better stadia isn't an indicator of a healthy sport, just because a few clubs rake it in doesn't mean that they all are. Football has become a circus, a political tool it has lost the feeling of where its roots were/are.

Our grass roots clubs are really struggling, many foreign leagues are struggling and it's mainly do to greed, there's way to much football on TV and it's far too happy bloody clappy for my liking. We as a club have had our good times before and we have had our bad times but what we have never had is such a conflict of interest between fans.

You've got the old guard trying to drum up an atmosphere by traditionally singing and making a noise and you have got the new lot holding their phone in the air with a hot dog hanging out of their mouths.

It's called history and changing times, always been the same and always will be.

It isn't though, this feels artificial because it is artificial. We would get the fans through the door with less glitz, in fact we would probably get more. Both of those pictures you posted show probably life long blues not day trippers who just went for one match day experience.

We used to draw people in at a young age with complimentary tickets, nowadays very little of that happens they'd rather fleece a nipper for £3 for a bag of £1 haribo. When the shine goes all those fans will leave and we will be left with a nice house with no furniture.

How did we know they were phone lights ?
I remember when I was in a dark tunnel and suddenly I thought I saw light at the end.
Unfortunately it was just some bastard with a torch

I hate mobiles and what they have done to live events with a passion but it's simply a generational thing.

We will not be left with a shiny empty stadium even when our cycle of success end which it will, a vast majority of our fan base is loyal and again history shows that was always the case and in my opinion always will be.

quite a lot saying it started with celtic game, are you all tourists in disguise ? Phone torches been used before that at etihad.

we have to many complainers and non acceptors, its a light and people having a good time. Any older football fans will have seen many new trends since the 50s & 60s/70s, did we throw toys out the pram then ? Who would have thought bringing a banana to a game would take off ? Imagine if somebody brought out a banana for the first time ever in the next home game, it would be more products threatened it be shoved up arses !

accept it, if its a drum or a torch its far better than being sat on mobiles / arriving to games late and blaming a bus / moaning about flags /fuckin off to the bar on 36 mins and coming back n 10 mins it second half and leaving on 78 mins.

next home game hope the torches double in numbers

We need to try to keep our fans mate, we need to keep the tradition of football because that's the big draw. The club can do this by sorting out the ticketing situations and stop ripping fans off at the kiosks.

I don't buy things from the kiosks I even sneak in my sweets and drinks, I shouldn't have to though. It's very hard for the die hard atmosphere makers to make a dent when people are permanently on the move while the match is taking place and people are watching the game through a mobile phone.

Don't get me started on half and half scarves either ;)

I agree with what your saying but again it a generation thing.

Just watched an interview with Noel Gallagher, he was talking about the Oasis Knebworth concert, he said watching footage of it and seeing 125,000 watching on and not a mobile in sight was incredible, in comparison to concerts of today. Why people pay a fortune for a ticket for a live event and then spent their time watching it through the screen of their mobile while filming is to me utterly bonkers and weird.

Weirdly football for me is all about tradition, the world is moving too fast for me to stay relevant in it and I suppose it's just me kicking back and hoping for the circus to stop. There are of course good things like the football we play isn't it marvellous, but sometimes I crave the uncertainty and the edge of the seat scenarios when we were a bit pants ;)
