if you don't think a lot of people are working the system then you are just as guilty of seeing what you want to see as people who label others on benefits as scroungers. My own perception is that the reality is somewhere in between.

Yet all the government facts that are released, and remember this government wants to demolish the welfare state says the opposite.

The facts they have released are because people are concerned about the directon they are going and they have got there facts through the Freedom of Information Act so the Government cannot lie, it has to tell the truth.

This is gong to be a long hard fight against peoples preceptions because the right wing have poisoned the minds of many against there own people. I would have thought that the vast majority of people on here are working class and it send shudders down my spine that we can turn on our own.

We should be getting angry about the cunts who have gambled this countries bank money and avoid tax for fun, not the poor mum down the road who cant feed her kids.
yawn yawn fucking yawn

Oh I forgot... You know every single person who resides in the gardens.
You know all their life history, what illnesses they have/don't have and all this is known through a daily observation whilst residing in a local Greggs.

My, your psychic talent is wasted making Pasties.

Just a question Gregg.... Aren't the lower income/unemployed group a big customer of Greggs, and are potentially keeping you in a job?

Would I really buy a Greggs pastie if I could buy a steak everyday at El Gaucho?

So we dont take the piss out of the draggs in society, but its ok to rip into people that has previously worked at greggs.

I'm "Ripping" into him as he has made sharp observations about people who reside in the gardens during the day, grouping them all together as scum of society.

And I have no issue whatsoever with employees of Greggs, nor any issue with Greggs itself which make absolutely delicious doughnuts, even prefer Greggs doughnuts over Krispy Kremes.

Greggs are a very big employer of lower income, working class people, great business success story :-)

I only said I could 'possibly get you one' as I know someone there from my previous Bagel time. I don't work there. Never have.

Also, I have not 'Grouped them all together as the scum of society' once. Do keep up.

I'll give you a bit of family history if you like, where a full generation was dependent on state handouts due to illnesses of their own, and their kids. I have no problem with such circumstances whatsoever.

I don't understand why some people find it hard to believe that some people do rip the system to fuck though. Right some people throw the sponger around as a catch all, but I do not. If you have legitimate reason, fair play, and I would hope to be treated the same should the situation arise.

I do have a problem, however, with the ones that are clearly abusing the system. The gardens just happen to be a focal point for it occasionally.

So pipe down, or people will begin to think you protest too much.

Is that your sole contribution then ? If you're not going to try and argue your opinion, then there wasn't much point in posting really.

A few 1000's families across the Country a few million a year is nothing the Bankers have cost the Country and are still costing.
The City has managed to fiddle Libor and have probably fixed the price of metal, fuel and gas to, which has put 1000's out of work.

I am no left winger but the way we have be truly fecked over by these twunt fecks by right off.
Yes there are some work shy but probably more who work and claim benefits.

I agree, however how a thread about how scummy Piccadilly gardens is has descended into a debate about who are the worst in society. Can we not just agree City Bankers are shits (this coming from someone who works for a bank) benefits thieves are not as bad but still shits, decent people are decent regardless of social standing and Piccadilly Gardens is a cultural and social monstrosity?

No its not a joke, im on DLA and ESA, i worked as long as i could before illness made it difficult/damn near impossible to hold a job down anymore. Im not poor, not in the way some are poor as i had savings, but they are running out. Fortunatly i own my own house so dont have a mortgage or claim HB, but a time may come when i will have to sell my house and then claim HB as i will have no money left.

It depresses me greatly that because of a few well publisiced abuses of the benefit system people think that we who through no choice of our own are scrounging feckless scum.

The demonisation of the poor has begun and its the poor who are paying the biggest price for the reckless gambling of the city of London and the mass tax avoidance of the rich
.

Couldn't agree more. It's sickening the way successive govt, tory and new tory(labour) alike have used the poor to blame all societies ills.
What's even more sickening is their propaganda is working and hard working people on low income are just as likely to sneer at people on benefits as the rich tax dodging **** on his yacht somewhere in the med.

Good points mate

What also pisses me off is Manchester as a City as always been at the forefront of progressive politics and yet now our own people are attacking our own people.

Historically Manchester has always been a hotbed of political thought, ideas and innovation, we are a proud City who have lived and fought against injustice.. When Liverpool supported the Confederacy in the Ameriican civil war so they could keep there wealth, Manchester refused cotton from slaves and many went close to starvation because of there beliefs. We got a statue of Lincoln for our beliefs and our values, Liverpool declined. Marx and Engels founded there beliefs in our City as they saw the working man and everything he espoused as the true people of a nation.

Yet today a hundred years and more after everything we have achieved as a people, still we have class war and its not class war as the tories railed against in the 1800s when they thought the working class would not be able to elect just men, its turned so the tory rich elite now pit working man against working man.

As Mancunians with our rich history, we should be fucking ashamed this happening

Aww you're making me blush!!! Would post on here more often but it's a pain in the arse on my iPhone.

Agree with ultimateharold on almost everything

Another thing that annoyed me last week, when it was pissing it down they had the fountains on full blast mocking me on my way to and from work

I must add, today, there were a festive troupe of Uruguay fans having a laugh. It is good when non-domestic teams come to town.

You can prove this i assume? as you have asked other people to prove theire "misconseptions"

Yes of course i can.

It is the governments stated aim to shrink the welfare state. They have already said they will reduce the numbers claiming DLA by 20% despite fraud being 0.05%. So 1 in 5 people who are ill will no longer qualify for support. How fucking random is that?

ESA , is now only paid for 1 year, if after one year you have not found a job you lose the benefit completely, not some of it, but fucking all of it, zilch, no cash nothing. Have you any idea of what ESA is?

And shamefully fucking shamefully the govt are comitted to closing remploy. Under the fucking bizarre thought that disabled people can easily get a job in normal society.

I hope the countrynwakes up soon to whats happening, im part of these vicious changes and its fucking scary i tell you, they dont care about me, which means if you fall on hard times they will not care about you.

You stated that the gov wanted to demolish the welfare state

de·mol·ish (d-mlsh)
tr.v. de·mol·ished, de·mol·ish·ing, de·mol·ish·es
1. To tear down completely; raze.
2. To do away with completely; put an end to.

You then state that it is the goverments aim to SHRINK the Welfare State

Can you understand my confusion?

In some ways lots in other not

Manchester is a city that has always embraced outsiders and always celebrated its own.

Who is too say that Marx and Morrisey were not sat in Piccadilly at some point.

Peterloo had many Mancunians of the unsavory sort according to the London centric press

-- Thu Jul 26, 2012 9:48 pm --

I'm not asking you to quote me. I'm asking you to quote whoever said "all wealthy people are wankers all poor people are victims" because I can't seem to find it anywhere on the thread.

I've just walked through Piccadilly Gardens and saw a young girl ( 17 is my guess) She was pushing a buggy with a toddler in it and was talking into a mobile phone in what I can only describe as a council estate accent.

I obviously didn't want to engage her in conversation in case she got her drug dealer boyfriend to tune me in but I'm pretty confident that she only got pregnant to jump the queue on social housing and definately didn't look like she had ever worked in her life. Or had any intention of ever doing so.

I also think she probably would of been drinking cheap lager out of a can if she hadn't spent all her money on drugs too.

Are you on the Wind Up?

Council estate accent... WTF?

And then you spell "definitely" wrong. Spelt like it was said with a council estate accent.
