Thanks for the pictures everyone.

Quick question, does anyone know if there were steps at the end of this tunnel, or was the walkway sloped:

TA!

as far as I can remember it just came out on to the terrace. Then you stood wherever you wanted.

That brings back memories you could get through that tunnel without touching the ground.

Theres a great oil painting on ebay ending on Sunday of the kippax forecourt. The artist is getting a good reputation and some of his paintings go for £500+.
I bought one of outside the maine stand last year - really pleased with it and highly recommend if anyones into this sort of stuff.

WOW thanks for posting that - not seen too many of the old Blue Print flag.
This was kept in my mate Frank's cellar and I would pick it up in my Ford Escort Estate.
Outside the Kippax car park, I'd have to blag about 15 lads to give me a hand getting it through the turnstiles. We'd get a couple of juniors wrapped inside it as we carried it over the turnstiles!
Then after the game we'd have to try and blag a few more lads to carry it back to the car - easy if we won, more difficult if we didn't!
It cost about £100 of Blue Print's proceeds each time we took it out as it would rip easily.
In the end, we wanted to bring it out for the first game of the new Kippax - but the club wouldn't allow it as it didn't have a fire safety certificate....
the flag rotted away in Frank's cellar before being taken to the tip.... :(

Film of the flag and the Kippax Stand's final day will be shown at the film show I'm hosting at Cornerhouse (with the NWFA) in April. Lots of great stuff to be shown that night and the atmosphere on the Kippax will affect everyone who comes. It'll bring back many memories and will also give those who didn't manage to stand on the Kippax a feel for how it actually was. More details later this month on the event.

TA!

Photo was one of Emma Tamara Taylor's and shown here in Farewell To Maine Road. The tunnels were slightly sloped and came out about a third of the way up the Kippax (so terracing down to pitch level).

The pitch was actually below ground level, but not as noticeable as with the present level 1 at the Etihad.

Thanks Gary,
Yes, Blue Print tried to do a ''video diary'' of a whole season one year, but gave up after a few games. For one game, Liverpool at home, Mike K and another Blue went into the Platt Lane end to film Scousers and see what life was like in the away end for the away fan.
There was two successive interviews with fans, the first complaining about the stereotype of all Scousers being on the dole etc as being a load of crap and he hates the other teams fans singing songs about it.
Enter fan No 2 complaining of the £5 to get into the ground ''we're all on the dole you know, how are we supposed to afford that?''

Classic!

The Maine Road pitch was below ground level?

I honestly didn't know that? Learn something new every day.

Yes, if you think about it, you'd enter the Kippax on ground level, walk through the tunnel and then it was down the terracing steps to the bottom of the terrace.
On one of my regular visits to the site after it was knocked down, on one visit after lots of rain, (and peeking through a gap in the fence) there was what looked like a big swimming pool in the middle which was the pitch!
