Pictures of City and United fans from the 70's

Interesting pics, but was only a pup at the time.

Someone should start a day the rags were relegated thread. Would be good to read the story's of those who were there.

I was in the scoreboard end when the scum got relegated. When Denis backheeled them into oblivion we roared in delight only to get all sorts of stuff hurled at us from all directions as the twats tried to get to us.
It calmed down then they scum came over the fences.
I'll never forget Mick Doyle, what a god, just daring them to touch him.
Saw a copper in the stand to our left go down and get a right kicking.
We stayed there until the ref abandoned the match then went home, scarves carefully concealed!

Never been back to the swamp since.
I want nothing to ever get in the way of the memory of Denis and his back heel.
Any city fan in the scoreboard would've kept quiet residential been filled in ... there had been at leat 3 pitch invasions from Stretford end by then ... look at the video of when law scored and there are no celebrations at all as city fans had moved out of the scoreboard ... with the final pitch invasion city fans in the paddock were attacked from above and the pitch ... it's days like that which make all the old days thankfully past despite the views of some that they were glory days

Depressing to see how much football meant to kids back then.

We've now got a disenfranchised younger generation and a growing fickle fan base of selfie stick wielders who'll melt away.

It's the price mate if its was cheaper to watch live there would be more youngsters, footballs cutting its own throat.

The fashion was mad lol
Did you say "fashion"??? Yikes!

As a teenager in the 70s, who wore my share of "fashion," I have to say, though, that for many of us much of that clothing was our best "kit!" I remember the days of one coat, one nice shirt for best, one pair of nice pants, one pair of dressy shoes, and then your every day garb, with your City uniform about the only "luxury" clothing you had in your closet! Back then, scrapping about football was much more meaningful, so my primary school wouldn't allow scarfs and stuff, but a sneaky patch or two always seemed to find a way onto the school yard!!!

Ah, happy days...even though most of us didn't have two pennies to rub together!

I wonder if there is any other era of "fashion" that willever get the stick that the 70s gets?

I think that football meant so much to kids, especially boys and young men, back then specifically because of the undercurrent of violence. The football wasn't great and the conditions were shit but there was a frisson of excitement arising from the tribalism and potential for violence. It wouldn't appeal to me now as a 57 year old bloke but as a teenager there was a real buzz about it.

Great pics those...

Some of the old guard will recognise the late Mikey Williams in one of them, fresh as a daisy (:
Always remember a double take moment seeing him years ago at the NEC discussing wrestling tickets with another person in his profession. It was a midweek and I was at a trade show so he was the last person I expected to see.

Daft Donald has some afro

Good photos
Francis; surely.
