I agree on the flexibility, the strength in depth next year (should the transfers come off), is going to be the envy of most of Europe, different permutations, tactics etc, this is what I'm more excited about, I love chess and the adaptability of game during the event, not after.. Peps ability to change our identity is probably going to be the single most important event since the takeover as it is a vision of 20 years down the line...
I'm not saying silva is finished either, he'll have his part to play determined by the opposition I guess.... However, what we can both agree on is that next year is going to be immense for those who enjoy the tactical side of the game....
To get back on topic, where do you see Auba playing?? Personally I can see him in behind aguero on occasion, with sterling and KDB interchangeable, those three can all play wide and as a number 10, will send a few dizzy if it's how I think it will be!!
Yeh totally agree. There was lots of things I didn't like about Pellegrini, his inability to adapt to oppositions strengths and weaknesses was my biggest problem with him. The thing I love about Guardiola is he changes shape and game plan for every single opponent. This idea that Pep has no plan B is absolutely absurd. He's been known to change shape 4 times in one game at Bayern!
Many tactical managers such as Mourinho only figure out how to stop the opposition. They then plan to grab a goal from a counter-attack or set piece. Guardiola is the opposite. He analyses the best way to exploit the weaknesses in the opposition and sets the game plan up to do that. 99% of the time the opposition will try and play on the counter against him, so he tries to figure out defensively the best way to counteract that, but we'll never see him park the bus. It's going to be fascinating.
Personally I would have gone for Griezmann if we could get him as he's left footed, can play on the left of a three, or fill in for Kun when he's not available. But I think Guardiola is being very clever going for Aubameyang. He can play on the left, same as Griszmann, he can fill in for Kun, same as Griezmann, but what he offers that perhaps Griezmann can't is that he could offer us something completely different in the air as a target man or a little and large partnership with Aguero.
I've seen loads of games for Bayern where their biggest threat had been Boateng's direct diagonal ball to Lewandowski. I think that's why he's going all out for Stones and Laporte. If you've got a centre half who can play that diagonal, and a big target man centre forward, it gives you a completely different outlet, and one people are probably not expecting from a Guardiola team.
Also against deep-lying teams playing on the edge of their six yard box, we have missed Dzeko's threat in the air. Bony is clearly not up to scratch, so again, Aubameyang is a really good option if we can't get through the middle, he can put two wingers wide and put crosses in the box for him. Also with us losing Yaya this year we lack a bit of physicality, both offensively and defending corners, so this guy gives us that.
So, while I think Griezmann is a better player, Aubameyang could actually kill 3 or 4 birds with one stone, so it's a very clever buy in my opinion. What do you think about him, you happy?
