PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Fuck it - here goes…

Prediction based on conversations today with people ‘in the know’.

Give it six months of litigation and the PL will drop all charges against City due to insufficient evidence.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

"hi, is this Mr Sunak? Hi, ye this is the UAE minister for foreign investment, we seem to have a bit of a problem...."
Those two posts are very closely connected I reckon. A quiet word from Sheikh Mohammed and it all goes away. We'll see where the power really is.

Not quite. He was manager in 2011/12 and the following season, the first two under FFP.

But this isn't about FFP. It's about 'hiding' some of his remuneration using this Al Jazira consultancy contract. I suspect they're saying that we should have paid him that £1.5m through our accounts, so have understated our expenses.

But that amount makes sod all difference. If it had been £10m then that's probably something to worry about but not £1.5m. It's just not material.
I don't even think that £1.5m amounted to 1% of our annual revenue at the time. That will be the very definition of a slap on the wrist.

I think the amount is irrelevant the other way, if it’s not declared/shown doesn’t matter the amount it’s still against the rules Shirley?

Anyone believing City are guilty of any serious violations resulting in relegation HAVE TO be smoking dope, don’t they?

The PL is trying a “death by a thousand cuts” approach to try and ding us, but only a fool would believe that City doesn’t have reams of paperwork at the ready to bat back 95% of the accusations. The rest is technical BS which should also be addressed in short order.

Given the quality of the PL’s filing, I have to believe City’s legal team are not only prepared for battle, but confident of success.

For me, the best the PL can hope for us a technical rule violation that may have been violated over multiple years. That gives them their “systemic” argument and both saves their face and allows them to ding us.

Relegation? Seems ridiculous media hyperbole to me, but as a possibility it has the red shirt media frothing at the mouth.

Taking back titles? Nonsensical, isn’t it?!

Points penalty? Outside possibility to start some future season at minus X points, but really?

For me, it’s all about the PL trying to prove technical violations, because serious financial breaches just don’t seem likely at all.

If there are any technical violations over a long period, I think it’ll be a fine for each year of violation that might become a substantial number.

Transfer irregularities might enable them to hamstring any transfers for a few windows (a la Chekski), but we should have ample warning to take care of that, plus we have a strong stable of young talent to draw from.

Whatever happens, the only realistic outcome a serious person can envisage is far, far less than the nonsense being spewed by the clickbait media. I foresee 19 PL teams being disappointed if their goal is to get rid of City as a strong, viable competitor long into the future!

But as those circumstances involve the panel turning up in ‘Dreamcast’ Arsenal shirts and spending the entire time singing ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’, they’re not worth seriously pinning any hopes upon.
This is a ridiculous scenario. I have heard they have to play You'll Never Walk Alone at the openining of procedures at each sitting though.

Issue is if it really was immaterial, why do it in the first place.

That’s the one bit that does annoy me with a lot of this. Mancinis contract aside, I do think we’ve been creative in accounting with some of it but more for the benefit of some of the other Abu Dhabi companies rather than ourselves.
