I thought it was the PL who brokered the deal to settle and keep it out of the public domain to protect the PL brand. Later, it was then referred to the FA who basically turned it away as it had already been dealt with.

Swept under the carpet with limited reporting.

I thought the premier league found out about it later.
If what you’re saying is true that makes it even worse.
As you say the limited reporting makes it even harder to find out the facts.
On a side note I tried to find the article with regards the dippers offsetting about £50m for their imaginary new stadium to pass ffp.
I was gonna use it to shut up a dipper, like I’ve done before.
First time I found the article very easily, second time I couldn’t find anything.

So now we've simultaneously got people arguing the PL can't prosecute us because statute of limitations has expired AND that there should be no statute of limitations against other clubs if they do something wrong.

Some of them possibly but not others. For example the image rights stuff had been in the public domain for well over 6 years by February 2023. I can't see how the PL could possibly get over the issue of the limitation period on those.
