No idea but ask for le mermelada in Seville and you get jam, in fact marmalade isn’t even a thing in Spain. So at a guess the British made jam from Seville oranges and used a form of the Spanish word for jam. So that’s my guess.Why is jam made with oranges called marmalade and not orange jam?
