PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I don’t think you can characterise Carragher as a ‘no mark’ in terms of his media footprint.

This is the guy who said Haaland signed for the wrong club and he then proceeded to have a record breaking season. Unprofessionally brings a colleagues relationship into a conversation live on air, not to mention spitting at a girl in a car. He has no credibility as a pundit and as a broadcaster, why should the club waste time chasing him when they can be plotting what next the club can achieve.

Haven’t clicked on it, don’t need to as I know what the tedious **** will have said.

I hope, but don’t remotely expect the club to engage in a campaign of retribution against the most strident and egregious (and high profile) actors in defamation against the club once these preposterous charges are disproved.

Some, like Jordon are canny enough to stay (just) the right side of the line, but others (notably Carragher when he questioned the veracity of our accounts recently) have not and I just wish there were legal consequences for that, especially given the platform he was airing it on.

I’m not holding my breath though.
Legal consequences would be good but in the absence of that some physical consequences would work...

I think someone spouting that through a national broadcaster has a platform to cause reputational harm in a way that some no mark sat in their bedroom possibly can. A national broadcaster we have a contractual relationship with. There is a huge distinction in my eyes.

It’s a moot argument anyway as the club plainly agrees with you.

Edit: thinking about it, Sky would be the defendant, not Carragher, which makes a defamation claim impossible to conceive. Other pressure could be brought to bear, I guess. Anyway, as you say simply not going to happen.

Just out of interest, it's not just the likes of Carragher, Neville, Roan and Goldbridge who have crossed the line, but also Sky, the BBC and Talksport for broadcasting it? Could we (I don't mean the club, I mean concerned citizens) not put together a list of the various offenders/offences and distribute it to those organisations, along with a summary of the risks they are running by allowing those people to continue?

Yes, all things being equal, the broadcaster would be vicariously liable for what their presenter said. Can’t see the club doing anything like that though.

I think it is just possible for a fan to sue for defamation citing the libel as causing the fan mental anguish.
Bit of a stretch and costly. Ah well.

I wasn't assuming anyone should sue them, but pointing out the risks they are taking may make their legal teams think twice, at least.

Would a City Scottish stand more chance of sucess, under teir new rules on hate speech?
