Player abuse following Euro 2020

The media keep giving the agitators the publicity, just ignore them, they won't go away but you'll never stop Racism of varying degrees, ever. The UK is no where near as bad as the States but we are being tarred with the same brush. It's simple, anyone caught posting threatening or racists post should be prosecuted.

Re social media - Nedum Onuoha and David James were on the BBC this morning.

James suggested that the social media could have a two-tier plan - first tier with proper ID provision, second tier without it. If first tier post racist stuff, they can be identified easily, and you could block the second tier if you wanted.

Would reduce the followers notably, and is probably too simplistic in that form, but it doesn't sound like a bad starting point at first sight.
Steve Bartlett was saying this as well, there was an interview where he explained Man Utd did some campaign a while back trying to stamp out racism on the player’s social media. Straight after the campaign the amount of racist abuse their players got on social media increased.

He said it could be people who for the most part are ok people but do it almost for the reaction and without consequences because the social media accounts aren’t linked to them. The way to stop he reckons is to have to verify your id for social media with real life consequences for their actions.

Found a shirt clip from the interview if anyone is interested

Unfortunately I can’t find the interview now, but what he was saying made a lot of sense in my opinion.
Not sure I agree about the “for the most part nice people” bit, but I do think the onus is on the social media companies here. You will never stamp out racism in society completely, but the tech companies surely must have the capability to eradicate it on their platforms at least. That would be a huge step in the right direction.

surely if Twitter had altruistic purposes, every real person would have a blue check. Then every account without a blue check would be deleted. Sums it up when it's there to promote "look at all the famous people we have using our platform" and as a status symbol.

I don't think banning people who were online, sat at home watching the game from going to games they're not going to is going to change anything. Besides a mate giving you a ticket and you sitting there with your hood up or grow your beard out and who's going to know?

Banning their social media accounts (and preventing them from re-registering) would obviously be more effective. Ban them from games too though, even if it would be difficult to enforce.

hence blue check everyone, same with all social media profiles and there's nowhere to hide. I'd need 19,000 odd posts on here deleted in that case though...

Publicly shaming and the loss of employment etc would quickly help this issue.

Twitter really is a fucking joke. Trump was allowed to preach hate on that platform for years without getting a ban. Many of those tweeting racial abuse don't get a ban, unless it hits the news headlines. Yet I called a Liverpool fan a **** on there last year (justifiably so IMO!) in the wake of the CAS verdict and copped a fucking lifetime ban!

I hope all three get a decent welcome at the Etihad next season. I know two of them are rags and should be hated but fuck it. I hate United as much as anyone so it'll be hard but I won't be giving them grief about the penalties. It'll be easier for Saka obviously and I really felt for him.
