According to tomorrow's Sun, City are ready to offer a new contract to Edin Dzeko whose current deal runs until 2015

Wouldn't take notice of anything in The Sun but it wouldn't surprise me if we'd offered Edin an extension.

He is a frustrating striker but at the end of the day how many teams have a second second who scores them the amount Dzeko does for us, for example this season he has got 21 in all competitions so far.

Re: Edin Dzeko (continued)

A surprise move but if he is happy with his current role then fair enough he is still a useful player to have.

Re: Edin Dzeko (continued)

Hmmm,a difficult one.Dzeko has grown on me,however,i still think we can attract a better player and a better fit.
So,i'd keep Negredo and look to use the remaining value in Dzeko to secure a different variety of striker - an out and out type with real pace, agility and directness.

Fully agree. He isnt clinical enough, nor is he the type of striker who creates chances for himself. We have a target man in negrado. Id rather cash in on him and buy a striker in the sergio mold or a young pacey forward who can play on the shoulder of the last defender.

Think with edin we drop down a lvl in quality between him and sergio and negrado offers more in terms of all around play.

What annoys me is how he sulks when substituted and fails to acknowledge the fans, he's got more minutes than any of our strikers this season.

If Sergio and Jovetic were not as injured this season as they have been he would have nowhere near got as much game time as he has.

I think with their injuries and Negredo's loss of form we have pretty much relied on him being our first choice striker during the second half of the season and in all honest he isn't good enough to be first choice for us, he is a second or third choice.

I would like another Sergio type forward but if we don't look to sign a new striker and we keep Dzeko I will remain happy for sure, the guy will get us around 15-25 in all competitions in a season and not many second or third choice strikers can offer that in world football.

Re: Edin Dzeko (continued)

Unless we have a good offer on the table for him, it would seem to make sense to give him a new deal, even if he's not in our long term plans. If we let it drift through the summer without renewing his contract, and he doesn't end up leaving, we're going to lose him for nothing the following summer, or for peanuts in January. If we give him a contract, we have a very decent 'Plan B' striker, and we'll be able to get the best deal if we choose to sell him in the next couple of years.

Personally, I think that two years from now 99% of posters on here will view him as one of our greatest ever strikers, and an integral part of our continuing European domination.
