Re: Fernando

From what I've seen nothing gets past the Fernando - Fernandinho partnership. Can't wait until Ferdinho is fully fit so they can start like that with Yaya pushed up (because he obviously doesn't give a shit about defending)

Re: Fernando

I think we will see a straight fight between him dinho this season. We have a system and we rarely change it. Which means that we play 4-4-2.

This is now the norm though, this squad is so strong there is competition everywhere on the pitch.

From what I've seen, he is a very good player. He is protecting the back 4 more than I expected. You don't see him past the half way line like dinho would, but I think that is a benefit.

If both are fit when yaya disappears in January, I think this is where we will see the advantage of having him here.

My first post here on the Manchester City forums - I live in USA but have been an avid Porto fan (my cultural background being Portuguese of course) as far as I can know. I have always rooted for MCFC because it was a team that was always shadowed by the "top four" until the takeover from the sheik.

I felt the need to finally sign up for the forum because of the transfers MCFC made this year.. by far the best acquisition for MCFC will be Fernando, judging by his performances in the previous games he will be as vital to MCFC as he was to FC Porto. Granted he was never in the spotlight nor ever seen as the $50million dollar signing.... but he brought such stability to our midfield that is felt even now. Don't expect him to make forward dart runs or the defense breaking pass every game, but he will give all he has to defend and patrol the back...

Also I have seen many people here talking about a pair at the back.... I disagree completely.... when he gets fully assimilated with his new team he NEEDS to be left alone in the DM position. In porto his best years were when we played him as the solo DM and 2 other more attacking mids. He was sometimes lost with 2 DMs because he was always used to covering the flank where the ball was or would be, with 2 DMs he was always in charge of one flank and attacking which didnt play to his strong points...

In comparison, Javi Garcia was probably the worst buy MCFC did, he is a glorified CB who has bricks for feet, fouls everything in sight, and no intensity while playing..... glad he is gone

Cheers from the other side of the atlantic and I hope to be a productive member here (I have knowledge of the full Portuguese league as well as most of the leagues where the Portuguese teams concentrate their scouting - S.America, lesser european countries etc, so I hope I can clarify any questions about players)

Great 1st post - welcome to Bluemoon!

Now we know why he is called an octopus .

The beak and suction cups are a bit off-putting at first but you grow accustomed to them fairly quickly.

Re: Fernando

First time poster, long time reader here, but this guy is something else. It's like he's been playing here for a few seasons.
