Re: Fernando

I love this guy Fernando. Talk about fitting right in, he seems as if he's been playing with squad for a year not a month. In home matches or against lesser teams at their park, pairing him with Yaya or his cousin fernandinho should be enough to control the midfield. A rotation of the 3 will be necessary to keep everyone fresh/happy. Fernando is a HUGE upgrade over Garcia from what I've seen so far. I hope Mangala can fit into the squad the same way Fernando has.

Against a top team (Madrid, Barca, Bayern, or MAYBE Chelsea at the bridge) lining up with 3 in the middle like this may work.

--------------6--------------

--------42-------25-------

----21----------------8----

-------------16-------------

I call it the Christmas tree formation. 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 4-1-2-2-1. Call it what you want. The only problem I could foresee would be the fullback pushing forward to provide the needed width and getting caught out of position leaving us vulnerable to the counter. Against a team like Madrid or Bayern that could be bad news.

Or if Pellers wants to play with 2 up top we could play the diamond midfield, 4-1-2-1-2

Although changing our shape from the 442 may not be necessary as it seems to be working quite well. Who knows.

In Pellegrini we trust

Re: Fernando

There has never been a more solid midfield at City. Ever.
I'd take City's midfield options over every Premier League outfits - and most in the region mismanaged by UEFA too.

Re: Fernando

Think this guy will be the buy of the season for the money we payed
Following up his great debut with another belter last night.

Re: Fernando

Played well considering Ya Ya left him a bit exposed at times. Fernando didnt play as well as some are making out on here but he certainly had a good game and an encouraging start to the season

Re: Fernando

Interesting that most seem to think it will be Nando and Dinho holding with Yaya pushed forward if and when we play 3 in midfield. I'd expect Dinho to be given much more licence to push on and so it would be one behind the two rather than two behind the one. Obviously Dinho would be expected to track back a lot more than Yaya but that shouldn't be a problem given his boundless energy.

Re: Fernando

On the evidence of pre season and first 2 games he looks an absolute steal at £12million. Considering what we spent on Fernandinho who looked value for money by the end of the season. Fernando has just hit the ground running and has fitted in like a glove.

To be fair to Fernandinho he looked value for money a couple of months into his City career and didn't look back. Take your point though, Fernando looks to be an absolute bargain for what he provides. He could play for Barca, Bayern, or Madrid - which tells me everything I need to know about his quality as a deep sitting midfield player.

Re: Fernando

I'd seen him a good few times for Porto and always been impressed, however, getting to watch his movement, positioning up close is a joy. He shows so much discipline in never being teased out of position, it looks lazy in the first instance but from somewhere he throws out a leg at just the right time or covers ground very quickly to nullify genuine threat.... Superb player and the octopus isn't even settled 100%, can't wait for yaya to be up to speed, he will be deadly with fernando behind him!!!!
