90% of fouls are genuine attempts to win the ball. You come late, you make foul. Scholes was trying to win the ball too when he was sent off in cup semis. Clichy was genuinely trying to win the ball with pretty high leg, was late, caught players knee... Booking without a doubt. First one similar, he is late and he stands on player's leg, no complain there.

Would their player get sent off for those two fouls is another thing. Probably not.
HA! Fuck right off

See everyone has figured out how to defend against one of the best players to ever grace the game. There is no left back in world football who is going to shackle him for a whole game, especially when he is in the form he is.

All day with this.
He lost me a few times last night and i was sat on the front row..

Excellent?

Not for me. Bar the challenge that led to us scoring, I thought he was given a lesson by Messi all night. Getting sent off just capped his poor night off.
For most of the night he had to deal with two of them, and one of the two was Messi. He didn't play badly, so I think that earns him a pass for this one. His two cards were probably correct but either could have not been given.

I thought was one of our better players last night .
The referee was right to send him off .
After a poor start to season Clichy been one our better players this season .

I don't get why he is criticised so much - easy target probably because he isn't a hard man's favourite. Our best defender last night.
Been our best defender for a bit !

Asked yourself whether Messi scored?
If not Clichy had performed well against the Best in the World.

Only MUppets will think otherwise.

Just like they blamed him for goals by Doumbia et al...

Wasn't Clichy voted Player of the Month?

Like your post mate...made me smile.

That dribble across the edge of the box for the 2nd goal was like football porn.

Sheer and utter brilliance.

Each to their own, but Messi is light years ahead of Ronaldo for me.

On Clichy, someone earlier asked how he has pulled the wool over two manager's eyes for so long.

I genuinely feel sorry for those people, as they clearly have no clue about the game.

Up against Messi and when he drifts inside, he then has Alves to cope with. And all of this with no cover from midfield?!?

I can't remember the last time Clichy had a proper bad game, this year, last year or whenever. He is one of the most consistent players we have.

Of course he makes mistakes. So does Dave, so does Sergio, but because he isn't a big name, he gets it in the neck.

Totally, totally unwarranted.

Made Silva, Nasri Milner et al looks good or enhanced their attacking performances without them dropping to defend much.

He did fine coping with Messi and Alves. Was happy Alves got pissed off as he was subbed right after he rolled around from Clichy's challenge.

It was fair yellow for his sending off. If it was one of their players we would be shouting for the sending off.

However it is a case of a rush of blood to the head. He could have stood off Alves without making the challenge but get close enough to put pressure on him. This was after we scored and was getting on top of the game needing all players to pull in the right direction.

I guess now that we need to go for it in Barcelona we may be better off with his suspension and play Kolarov to put the crosses in.
