He needs to be binned. Even though Kolarov is injured. Didn't someone say Sagna can play there?

Mangala can play there and it would do him good to get game-time while being out of the firing line in the centre.

Interesting idea.

I don't know if he is any good at crossing a ball but, with his pace and strength, I could see him causing some of the kinds of mayhem in opposing boxes that Micah did at his best; Manga might be better at recovering his defensive position though.

Either way, is he going to be any worse than Clichy? Doubtful.

Worst thing is is did the cross that set up Aguero's goal in the derby win. Defending though he is useless, a weak line in a weak defence.

I think we need someone English/British somewhere in the backline to just know that you cant be a pussy and have strength and do everything you can do make sure the ball doesnt get past you. Zaba, Kompany and Mangala price tag have secured the other positions, so time for an English/British left back?

But who is good enough? Baines (Everton), Taylor (Swansea), Gibbs (Arsenal), Davies (Spurs) .... doesn't fill me with confidence.

But we are stuck with Clichy for the next month at least till Kolorov comes back or as soon as January approaches, whichever is quicklest. But we need a left back, was saying it last season and got lambasted by the experts here.

Re: Gael Clichy

No doubt Clichy has looked a pale shadow of his former self this season. But having said that, in the Derby last week when he had a clear plan and a partner helping him execute the plan ie Milner he looked back to his best and had Di Maria in his pocket second half.

Makes me wonder if that is part of the problem with the rest of the underperforming team; do they all know what they are supposed to be doing?

Re: Gael Clichy

Confidence plays a huge part, he's been quite poor but he's a good player, and proved it on numerous occasions.

He's our first choice for the next few games so lets get behind him

Re: Gael Clichy

Why Angelino(EDS) isn't being given a chance I don't know because the left has cost us no less than 5 games this season.

Re: Gael Clichy

Watched the highlights of the QPR game. first goal he's far too tight to his player so has to react quickly and slips.

For the second goal the ball goes to the wide player and he's got plenty of time to close him down a bit and try to block the cross or at least position himself so it can't go into the danger area just in fornt of the six-yard box. But he's failed to get remotely close to the ball, he stands still too far away and is far too square, giving Vargas all the time and space he needs to put a killer ball in. That's utterly amateurish & pathetic.

That second goal was a long time coming. All game he'd been letting them cross the ball under no pressure, they were bound to get something from it eventually. He may as well not of been on the pitch, he wasn't affecting their players at all, he was letting them do whatever they wanted.

It's not really a surprise to me cos frankly he is crap.

Re: Gael Clichy

People forget that he is afforded very little protection down the left hand side. He is still a quality left back, usually good defensively but like many of the team he's low on confidence. Given some backing he will come back.

The first sentence is correct but that doesn't answer his action (or lack of it) for the second QPR goal, where he makes no attempt to close down the distance or angle, or the first West Ham goal where he was too close to his man and let him race past him leaving Mangala exposed. Or the second West Ham goal, where he got completely outjumped despite having a good few seconds to anticipate the ball.
