The best complement that can be made is the fact that his team mates and the club know his importance. A number of players would have been substituted after a challenge like Wellbeck`s last night. However, the team collectively protected Zabaleta for 20 minutes after the incident. The team played everything down the left, and Navas dropped back to take the ball in positions where you expected "the man" to have been. It may have looked like we dropped off the pace during this period, but as a team they knew a team with Zabaleta on the pitch is more important.

That's more or less what happened, although it was a case of Zabaleta protecting himself by stopping the overlaps. Up to that point he and Navas were isolating Evra and ripping them to pieces on that flank by bombing onto him as a pair. That's the reason why our momentum dropped a bit for the remainder of the half - he was nursing that injury. He got outpaced by someone too at one point - can't remember who as I haven't watched the game since.

I bet he's got a ridiculous bruise but he won't care. He's a hard bastard. Even when he got elbowed he jumped up and let the trainer treat him stood up. He doesn't let the opposition get any phsycological edge.

Said sort of less the same thing earlier in this thread, as some actually thought Zab had a mediocre performance on the night. Really ...
As for Zandvoortblue's assessment, spot on.

Re: Pablo Zabaleta Appreciation Thread

He's so brave and tough to be able to take thos heavy, heavy blows and still get up. He is a player to be particularly proud of.

Why do I as a middle aged man (having watched City for 33 years) wear a City shirt with this great bloke's name on it? Should n't I know better? He's 20 years younger than me FFS? Shouldn't I be past having heroes? Nah. He's a legend and I am proud to wear a City shirt with his name on it. He is everythign that is good about MCFC, and he isn't he only one.

Still walking a fine line for the next two games when it comes to picking up another yellow.

Please no.

The man will rightly go down as the finest right-back this club has ever had.

Quite. We need him in the team. One of several key players to the high pressing game.
Tolmie, do you think he's better than Tony Book who was renowned for having Best in his back pocket? My memories of Book were only on Kick Off and MOTD so I can't really compare them fairly.

Hard as fucking nails. Apart from the skipper he is my fave at the club. Love him

Love Vinny, buts Zabs is the Man. Will be gutted when he leaves City.
I hope they retain Zabs as a defence coach or sommat, his prescence in the tunnel/changing room and or academy would be immense.

I was born well after Booky had finished playing.

For Zabba to be classed in Book's class shows legendary status is assured.

Re: Pablo Zabaleta Appreciation Thread

Argentina really should be the best national team in world football. They have the ability and technique that all Latin players seem to have, plus they're are a gritty, tough bunch. Zabba and Aguero epitomise that blend, as did Tevez. Even Demichelis has shown himself to be a hardened pro, despite the pony tail.

If they can get the balance of their team right (particularly in defence) then they've got a great chance in Brazil.

Re: Pablo Zabaleta Appreciation Thread

his first touch is immaculate for a full back, yayas pinpoint long balls always seem to find zaba and his touch never lets us down. His defensive qualities outweigh his attacking capabilities, and hes immense going forward. A year or two ago I'd say to mates we could be a different team with micah, pretty stupid thing to say to be honest. LEGEND.

Re: Pablo Zabaleta Appreciation Thread

I'd be absolutely delighted if Zabba, and Sergio, won the World Cup this year.
