Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

He's been great in pre-season, Rodgers seemed reluctant to start him to begin with but once they got beat in Gibraltar the door just opened up for him. He's barely put a foot wrong so far, he's been Celtic's best player in their last 2 champions league games. He'll get the best player in Scotland award this season, he's actually good enough to be involved in our first team this season.

Not surprised Enrique said this, even in the brief moments yesterday, it looked like he was on the wrong team.

Amazing dribbling from Roberts. Getting by players for fun, looks a real talent! Should definitely be in our first team next season.

Does anyone know the thinking behind an 18 month loan period. Seems quite unusual.

Celtic wouldn't take him for 6 months as there's no real benefit for them.

12 months would be pointless as he's unlikely to come back here in January and make a real impact.

So 18 months gave him a chance to get settled in Scotland and at the club, have a preseason and hit the ground running this season.

Hopefully he'll help them get into the CL and then he'll pick up some great experience, and quite possibly a Europa league KO run.

is it me or does he lack something when in the final 3rd maybe he does not look up at times or keeps the ball to long and his finishing could be better
but a working project and i sometimes don't like long term loans but this lad cost us £10million so we need to make our minds up. maybe sell him on with a view buy back or bring him back now to work under pep and let him take up a place in the squad of 25 and sell or loan Jesús Navas to celtic

He's a 19 year old lad who's still learning the game who cost us £5 million up front (the rest of the £11 million are addons which will need to be tripped). I thought his finishing is good myself and as said earlier he doesn't always have the option of having someone to pass to.

Navas is worth more to our 1st team squad at this moment than Roberts would be. There's a piece here: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...s-theo-walcott-celtic-manchester-city-arsenal that claims it was at his or his advisors insistence that the loan was for 18 months.

Why exactly do we need to make our minds up now anyway?

Jesus Christ. Delete this post. The entire thing is aids.

I know this will have been asked before, but say we get drawn against them in the CL, I take it he can play against us?

I think this happened before with Chelsea and and Cudicini. I think UEFA ruled that the player could play.
