Samir Nasri
I haven't posted on here for ages and often get shit when I do, but I feel the need out of sheer frustration and being sick of people apparently not being able to see and realise what I now do with regard to Samir Nasri.
Yes, granted, he's a very gifted and tallented player, yes he's a nice enough bloke in himself and yes when we signed him and for the first couple of seasons I really wanted him to become the great player for us, his ability suggested we should expect.
I often defended him, hoping he would eventually come good, and just once or twice he almost fooled me into believing that he had arrived.
Sometimes when you like someone and genuinely want them to win through you maybe don't see too many of their flaws, probably because you aren't really looking for them?
I no longer rate Nasri or feel he is worth persevering with, and since I gave up any hope of him fullfilling his real tallent, which is a shame, I've found myself seeing and noticing just what a negative effect he regularly has on our team.
I know he has scored one or two very decent goals, some quite spectacular and some in important games, but so he should given the number of starts and opportunities he's been giften for several seasons, so please don't use his goal against Bayern as a defence (he's no Colin Bell ffs).
Nasri shirks any responsibility other than in the attacking third and is consistently carried match after match. He almost never puts his back in or fights tooth and nail in the way Silva, Navas or Milner do. He regularly overplays and has a work ethic which is pretty much as bad as Trevor Sinclairs ever was, though I won't argue that potentially he is an exceptionally gifted footballer.
Nasri is unfortunately, like Sinclair, completely spineless and lacks what's required by any team with an ambition to play at the very highest level, a level where we obviously now want to compete.
I watched the game tonight and saw, once again the same lazy performance from him, he really is just the kind of luxury a team playing against Barcelona can't afford, and it really riles me that his niceness as a bloke and occaisional glimses of brilliance seem to prevent others seeing his pretty obvious failings.
Please don't come back with counter arguments, as I'm not really arsed about debating my views, but I would urge those who think I'm talking shite to just watch a little closer what he does and what he doesn't, and observe how his regularly lacklustre and poor performances are excused or papered over by the odd decent thing he does, just every now and again.
Once he was eventually substituted and left the pitch we looked a completely different team, and though I won't go so far as to say I hate the guy, I truly despise the fact his regular selection hamstrings the team and also denies others who are able and willing to fight for the Club, a place.
To arrive at the top and maintain a position as one of the truly great teams takes the kind of character and comittment you can clearly see from several of our squad, but in my humble opinion, this waster is fooling too many (Pelligrini included), but not me, and not any longer.
