Ok I'll play - Siqueira at Atletico, Rodriquez at Wolfsburg, Alaba at Bayern, Alba at Barca - there's four definitely better both defensively and attacking wise and I haven't even thought of Real Madrid or for closer to home Baines at Everton isn't bad. If I had a choice it would be Alaba first followed by Rodriquez both 22 and would be an upgrade of your hero ha!

Well done. 4 who are better indeed. Rodriquez broke through not too long ago. Let's see if he can keep it up.
And that's it really. Some will be equal. In the PL none. Baines comes closest and maybe if Shaw would be able to continue the way he started this season. But definitely not better.
So that ranges Kolarov very high up the ladder. And still you and many others moan. We can't have the best 11 in every position.

Look carefully at my previous posts I am not moaning about him, just stating facts over his deficiencies - At the actual game I was cheering along all the team with everyone around me we had such a superb second half and it was a fantastic CL night - we've not had too many have we. I cannot understand why there are those who get ultra defensive over certain players. I like many others just want us to progress as a team. Please do not accuse me of moaning about a particular player when that is simply not true.

I apologize. But it's too easy to point out weaknesses when every player worldwide has them. Kolarov gets a lot of stick he doesn't deserve. And imo he so far has a very good season. Not perfect but who has. And he is way ahead of Clichy. That'll do for me.

Fair enough - I do agree that there is not another player in the squad capable of constantly pushing him. Let's hope we go on a good run now whoever is in the team. Have a good week and a few Amstells!

48th best player in Europe in 2015 according to whoscored.com who's doing a countdown on sky. 7.426/10 average rating. Only Silva and Kompany ahead of him from City. People will still have you believe he's the worst player we've ever signed though.

Thought Aleks played quite well on Monday night. Several decent interceptions!

Rodriguez is overrated. So is Alaba for that matter. But yes, Alaba is better. Bernat will be an even better fit than Alaba. Alaba's ball skills are pretty iffy for a Bayern player. Bernat is the LB we want. Rodriguez is like Kolarov. Good on dead balls, but a pretty average all round footballer. Don't know why he is rated so highly by many. I guess the goals and assists have blinded many to his general play.

If I were to rank my top 5 fits for City:
Marcelo
Bernat
Alex Sandro
Gaya

Azpiculetta
Orban

The first 4 include the 4 best footballers who happen to be leftbacks. The final 2 are defensive juggernaut who sometimes play LB (I.e Zabaleta's of the left side)

Yes, I know Alaba and Alba are superior athletes compared to the above. But I believe these guys are better fits for us. Alba I can see. Alaba on the other hand will disappoint if he leaves Bayern. He is the classical product of the system.

Rodriguez is simply an inferior footballer, Siqueira too.

Just seen him up Deansgate bladdered out his head, doubt he will be ready for Saturday.

Merry Christmas.

I think the consistent criticism of Kolarov is fricken ridiculous on a couple of levels. First, it's quite clear most of our players are too nice and we need someone with a bit of cnut about them, and second on a pure ability level, he's way ahead of just about any other leftback around, including Clichy.

It wasn't so long ago I used to read the 'experts' on here extolling the virtues of Taiwo & Moreno and others if similar ilk. Not a one of them is even close to being as good as Aleks.

He's also obviously a respected squad member off the field too, so replacing him would be a big risk from that viewpoint.

And it should also be said that Aleks and Joe Hart are nearly always the last ones off the pitch after applauding the fans every game win lose or draw for those of us who could be bothered to stay behind and applaud the players !

had his boots on the wrong feet tonight. Defended mahrez well though and took a nice yellow to stop a break.

His crossing has always been a myth just cos by the laws of probability he is bound to put a decent one in at some point. And I am sick and tired of him getting the ball from about 40 yards out and thinking he can smash it in. I think a new LB will be top of Pep's shopping list.
