Where?

When we have a full strength side we have:

One of the best keepers in the league if not world in Hart,
Two very solid centre backs in Kompany and Otomendi,
One quality holding midfielder and another looking promising in Fernandinho and Delph,
The league's best midfield maestro in Silva,
Another highly gifted midfielder who can play anywhere and has the most assists in the league in KDB,
The best striker in the league in Sergio.

Add to those Yaya when he's on form, Sterling when he can get it together, Bony, Mangala, Fernando etc.

THE main deficiencies in our team are our fullbacks.

Zabaleta isn't on form this season and injured, Sagna is having a purple patch but still isn't quite good enough for where we want to be.

As for our left backs, Clichy has regressed, and although he was much improved today over recent performances Kolarov IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. He was comfortable today against lesser opposition. Had he had that performance and not been shown up against better opposition I would have been more impressed. But even his goal was his same old - HIT IT REALLY HARD. He got it on target which meant it wasn't getting stopped. A good goal and well needed by the team, but how many times is that shot going to go high wide and handsome?

I'll cut him some slack today but I maintain our left backs are not the standard we need. Going off Clichy's performance against Juve, Kolarov is our best option, but that to me is a very worrying state of affairs.

Sorry, where do you want me to start?
A Manager, who just sits there looking totally bemused, whilst rotating ridiculously.
The way we start games so lethargically
Yaya when the opposition have the ball.
No real holding player, to protect our central defenders, especially when Demichelis plays (Delph might eventually prove to be that player, but we're almost into December, and he's started one game)
Kompany's appalling fitness record.
The fact that we're one striker light
Hart's distribution.

I actually agree with most of your opinion about Kolarov, but if we ignore the bigger deficiencies, we'll win nothing.

How the fuck Hart's distribution a bigger deficiency than a full backs inability to defend I have no idea. Just another shot to get a dig in.

I probably would, because I'd know that Sergio can pick his spot and place it. I have no confidence that Kolarov ever thinks bottom corner. He just thinks somewhere in that direction.

So someone who has an outstanding, accurate shot has never 'picked his spot' with any if the 19 goals he has scored for City ( by the way that's 18 more than Clichy ! ). Maybe you don't recall the goal v Sunderland when we came back to draw 3-3 ? I recall a superbly struck shot right in the bottom corner in that game and also seem to recall he did it in a cup game ( was it Notts County ? ). 1 out of 10 for observation !

Monreal has 0 goals and 6 assists in his entire time with Arsenal

Moreno has 2 goals and 1 assist

Kolarov has 9 goals and 21 assists

Baines is better (benefited hugely from taking all of Evertons free-kicks, corners and penalties though)

I'm not his biggest fan, but I think the abuse he gets on here is criminal. Not bad stats for a defender!

People will always have a problem with Kolarov, for me I'm not sure why. Yes on occasion he can be questioned defensively. Which fullbacks can't.
In the pub Saturday, I was talking to a Kolarov outer, I asked him which left backs he'd swap him for. First was Bertrand and Southampton, I pointed out that Kevin De Bruyne played right wing for us, scored and and two assists.

There's only possibly Monreal I'd swap him for, Chelsea's left back/right back lad is a better defender, but not sure I'd swap them.

His age, and Clichy's age will make sure one or the other is replaced sooner rather than later, I'm guessing Kolarov due to Clichy's home grown status.

I've defended him a lot, and I think he proves his worth a lot. I have always found it funny how Zabaleta escapes any critisium for his defensive cover. I imagine in the time they've both been here, Zaba has made just as many mistakes as Kolarov. Whilst Kolarov has contributed much more going forwards.

Most of our important games in the last 5 years Kolarov has played, and played well.
