Another typical kolarov performance.......shit!!! We really need swirls class left back in the summer

What exactly did he do so wrong today? Or are we blaming him for the goal? Nobody remember him covering brilliantly to deny Deeney who would of otherwise been through on goal in the first half? and again covered well from a watford flick on to get to it before Ighalo and steer it back to hart towards the end. Was wasteful going forward but that's not a reason to give him the stick he's getting.
Granted I agree that he made a couple of telling interceptions today but surely he has to do that. Going onto what he does wrong at the moment - He consistently backs off when run at allowing too many crosses coming into the box. He is very wasteful and needs many chances to make telling passes. His shooting to shots on target ratio is appalling. His crosses now seem to rarely find a man. He runs into space that Sterling wants to exploit. But, above all that as an experienced player he seems incapable to help his teammates when our backs are against the wall. Would love him to be a leader and a left back that teams hate to face but in a team wanting to win the CL - which is what we are aiming for - he is a little lacking and therefore perceived by many like me as our weakest link. Oh and yes own goals happen see Richard Dunne! but no excuse to close your eyes on a defensive header.

Where to start... His passing was awful, his defending was even worse at times leaving bloody Sterling to do his job for him, no idea what he was trying to do for their goal and I am sick and tired of him getting the ball from 30 yards out and thinking he can score when surprise surprise it goes into the crowd yet again. And his crossing has gone to pot as well. Is that enough?

His passing was no worse than anybody else today, Yaya gave the ball away in dangerous positions constantly, Silva couldn't find a blue shirt, KDB gave it away like the ball was a ticking timebomb. When did he leave Sterling to do his job? Sterling marked the fullback he never marked their right winger or is Kolarov expected to defend on his own against 2? I already mentioned two specific examples when he covered his centre backs and prevented them from being clean through. Pellegrini expects him to bomb on and provide width going forward, it's inevitable he's going to get caught out up field fairly often as a result of that. We can bring in someone else who's attack minded and have the exact same thing happen to them or we can bring in someone who offers nothing going forward like Clichy. I agree it's a problem but it's not a Kolarov specific problem, it's a formation problem and it won't change until the manager changes. whilst he shoots far more than he should do, I can't really complain at him shooting when there's literally no movement or options infront of him.

Our use of attacking full backs is unlikely to change much if Pep comes in, as you say some of Kolarov's critics on here seem to discount the fact that he is used primarily as an auxiliary winger, he doesn't take Sterling's space at all as some have suggested, that's plainly the instruction his manager gives him to run on and offer an option down the line.

I'm glad there's someone else that see's it the way i do. I thought it was rather obvious to anybody that watches us regularly, but apparently not. I think you're right, i expect Pep will use him in a similar way but i'm anticipating he'll also set up with a 3 man midfield whereby one players primary job will be to cover both our fullbacks when we lose possession.

Pep will use him to generate funds to bring in a new left back, he's won a lot at City and been picked by 2 managers that won us the league but he won't be anywhere the standard that Pep will want, watch this space.

It was actually statistically worse than all bar Navas and Hart.

Not his finest game but come through strong with an assist and covering our 2 center halfs right near the end of the game! He's been playing all season up and down the flank for 90mins at a very good level so when he does throw the odd bad performance ne should be cut some slack!

This +1
