Just checking the stats, while he's scored more goals in open play than the likes of Rooney and current darling Hazard, I read and I litterally don't believe it, he's only assisted in five goals all season in the league? Surely not?

Stats don't tell half the story of Silva's contribution, have a look at how often his vision provides a pass that sets up the assist.

Wasn't saying they do, was just stunned that there was only 5 direct assists. Was there not 2 or 3 Sunday? One direct pass, brought down for pen. The one at Spurs. I know he dictates play like no other. I personally believe he is the league's most influential player. Just surprised at so few assists considering the way we play.

Can't get David silva ole song out of my head aha.

Although he hasn't had the best of seasons compared to the past, he still has been one of the 3/4 standout players this year. Absolutely love him, his vision is fantastic and is a joy to watch.

Keep it up El mago

Agreed - I wish the Olé song would pick up though because Spanish Dave deserves to hear it loud and clear across every seat in the Etihad.

Absolute magic man and a joy to watch!

The Prem doesn't count winning a penalty as an assist, but a sideways pass 25 yards out followed by a spectacular goal out of nothing would count as an assist. Some organizations allow two assists for the same goal (i.e. a defence-splitting pass to an overlapping fullback who knocks it across for an easy tap in would credit an assist for the defence-splitting pass as well as the cross). I think if you used the broader definitions and actually included all important contributions to a goal, Silva would come out looking much better than he does from the Prem assists stats alone.

As other have said, that doesn't tell the whole story

But do those two media darlings defend as well as our Dave does?

I genuinely don't know, as I don't watch the chavs nearly as closely as I watch City, obviously, but many of the so-called experts overlook what Merlin does in our own half.

They don't just overlook it, they tell lies about it. You can tell which pundits have only ever watched the highlights of him, because they all come out with the same shite about him not tracking back, putting any tackles in or working hard enough when we haven't got the ball.
Silva is the ultimate pro. If he was at the rags or with the tarquins he would be winning player of month regularly and have a few POTY awards under his belt.

he is a class apart from the rest a classy player i wish he will shoot with his right TOO!!!! that miss 1on1 with fabianski was just unreal

I thought he was sublime today as usual. Pure class. Just wish he would shoot sometimes!
Agreed. His one failing is his seeming desire to walk the ball into the net at times. I wouldn't mind, but he has the ability to shoot from the edge of the box (Hull last season and West Ham earlier in this campaign immediately spring to mind).
