When he leaves I'll cry.

I hope we have first option on his babies.

I don't think he will ever leave unless it's on our terms. He will either finish his career at City or we'll let him leave on a free when he's nearing the end of his contract. However, I would not be at all surprised to see us extend his contract until he is in his mid to late 30s. His talent as a footballer is mainly in his head and his touch. Those qualities won't diminish with age.

Hasn't he said he wants to finish his playing career back at his hometown club? Either way tears will be shed when he finally says goodbye! :-(

If we know he's leaving before the end of the season the last home game will be near on impossible to get even if we do have 60,000+ by then

The only hitch could be the amount of punishment he takes from the opposition, the guy's ankles must be 90% scar tissue. He doesnt get protected enough by the refs, hopefully it doesn't take its toll.

He's a tough little fucker, but I know what you mean. He's not scared of giving it back either.

Have to be honest here; when we signed him, I was sceptical about how he'd do in the more physical PL, as he's not the biggest bloke. As well as the usual "yeah, but can he do it on a wet wednesday night at Stoke in february" thoughts. Delighted to have been proved "massive"-ly wrong about the little diamond. And, as Stony said, Merlin's not backward at putting in a hard tackle (oo-err) himself. It'll be a dark dark day when he does go back home. I've always said that The King was the best City player I saw playing in the flesh. But Merlin is very close to him now.

He gets away with a fair few niggly tackles. Not as many as the ginger pig did, but then he doesn't play for the scum.
