Happy birthday Merlin!

Without a shadow of doubt the greatest player ever to put a City shirt on in my 21 years following the club.
 
Many happy returns to David.
Simply the best player ever to play for the mighty blues.

On 25 October 2011, in an interview with a Spanish radio station, Silva revealed that he turned down Barcelona and Real Madrid so he could sign for City, and that he wants to stay at the club for years.

"Madrid and Barcelona are great teams, but I'm happy here and I would like to stay here for many years.

I've always felt that if David was to be sold it would be for a lot lower than we'd hope. He's not a superstar celebrity (or English) and I think that factors into it but, now that he's hit 30, I'd be surprised if we got £25m for him.

Needless to say, he's worth way more than that to us so I hope he stays for a few more years and then gets his wish of joining Las Palmas similar to Zola leaving Chelsea for Cagliari.

Exactly. To us he's priceless, but to others he's a 30 year old with no resale value that's about to begin his decline. People that think we'd get £70m for him are in cloud cuckoo land.

Well he's got a point in that some posters have a habit of using the "no room for sentiment" argument to try and back up their desire to offload our most talented and important players with every injury or run of below par performances.

It's not sentiment, it's just that some fans like to show loyalty to players who have brought us so much joy over their City careers.
 
I agree there is no room for sentiment if you want to be the best.
Silva fits that cateogory, sentiment or not.

I think if you've watched City over the last 5/6 years and seen what Silva and a few others have brought to the table and are still saying there's no room for sentiment you're a shit fan who doesn't know what it is to support City.
At the moment we've got the number nerd calling him Saint david in a fucking snide sarcastic manner just because his idol, Yaya is rightly being called out for poor performances, as well as a couple of others who suddenly think he's finished because there's a new shiny toy been bought.
That's what I mean - though I should have kept it simple and said if you want rid of Silva, you're a ****.
