This sort of news suprises me.I mean how long does it take to get an already pretty fit professional athlete who isn't injured up to speed??

I guess at the moment we can afford to take our time but it still baffles me slightly that he isn't even considered fit enough for the bench.

Is he unfit though?

Notice Pellers says only Negredo is not fit to play

My theory is he is fit but not yet integrated into our footballing style of play yet

Re: Mangala signs!

Don't understand the flapping.

He isn't unfit, could be played physically but mentally he has yet to adapt to the system and will still be learning how to play alongside city players (not so much Bacary sagna) as they will know each other from France squad.

No point in throwing him in the deep end, he makes a mistake and before you know it people are on bluemoon flapping about him being shit.

Re: Mangala signs!

personally if he is fit and knows how to play in the system then for me i think it would be good to play him against Stoke

BUT i have to agree that if he is not ready to play in the system, there is zero point exposing him to criticism and potential mistakes.

He's only semi-holistic at the mo ;-)

Wanted to leave a comment I recently made to someone asking me if mangala was worth the fee......

What MCFC paid for was the future, less so than the present. EM is the complete package, there is no doubt about it, the player I can most easily compare his raw talent and skills set to is M.Desailly. It is not y chance that after 2 years of being at porto he was considered starting 11 quality and even getting the captains armband

He is the strongest, fastest, and most hardworking CB I have seen (and we have had alot of CBs that have become world class quality). He has various flaws and is very much not a final product, but playing at the premiership level is the only way to get him to that final product. He clearly outclassed all of the portuguese league (even europa league) competition, whether that be via overpowering them in the air, out muscling them in a tackle, or out pacing them in a sprint. He is very hardworking and impetuous, which sometimes either gets him exposed or leaves him making tackles that eventually lead to fouls. The other area that I have noted which needs improvement is his anticipation, obviously he can overpower his adversaries, but that could lead to a foul or exposing himself to dangerous 1:1 situations, the best option is win the ball through antcipation versus a tackle and that needs work, he has gotten much better at his time at porto.

Practice makes perfect, and this lad has the potential to be the best in the world at what he does... but for that to happen he will need to play and learn from his mistakes, and of course having a tutor like kompany by his side cant hurt....

PS: For those who think negociating with any portuguese club, ill focus on FC Porto for obvious reasons, is tough and not worth the money, I ask you to look at the big name players porto has sold and ask if any of them were huge flops? Also the reality of the portuguese clubs in general is that without these high fee transfers, the clubs would whiter away... the fan base is so small that TV rights sell for pennies compared to Premiership rights, and Club Meerchandising (allying with nike/Adidas/Umbro/Warrior/etc) gives us chump change - I think any club in the premiership makes more in tv rights and merchanidsing than we do (which is sad given the international and domestic honors we have won).... what is left except for our business model of picking up the best talents and selling them for higher fees think of it as a "stamp of quality" - and MCFC bought 2 huge players this transfer window: Mangala and Fernando

Anderson, Postiga, Bosingwa, Quaresma

P.S. How does Mangala compare with the likes of Carvalho and Pepe?

Re: Mangala signs!

^Not sure how you can lump Postiga in as a big money flop? He was a £6m youth player, hardly a big money, big name flop. Quarsema only went to Inter for about £15m and his temperment was widely known at that point, then Mourinho taking over was a death sentence for a player like Quaresma, whereas Anderson was one of the most exciting young playmakers in the world before GPC ruined him by inexplicably forcing him to be a midfield destroyer.

Bosingwa has no redemption, he was just a piss poor defender who Chelsea were mugs to pay £16m for. Much like Aly Cissokho when they managed to mug Lyon for about £12m for him.

It was £8.5m, and that was a lot in 2003, and Postiga was 21 with 80+ first team appearances and 30 goals. Spurs got 1 goal out of him before sending him back to Portugal.

Unless the add ons were "score one goal", then it was much more like £6m, which considering they traded him back to Porto for a value of about £5m towards Pedro Mendes a couple of years later, it was hardly a disaster.

Yea I expect him to start against stoke. No sure how it will work from there though with chelsea and arsenal coming up, suppose it will depend on how he performs in the stoke game

Doesn't look like he'll even be on the subs bench at Stoke.....this guy should be match fit by now....

Mangala not ready to play tomorrow says Pellegrini. Maybe he'll get some match fitness for France in the international break.
It's good we can give players time and don't need to rush anyone into the team though, isn't it?

Yes, it is but when you spend 32mil on a player and cant even get him on the subs bench after 3 weeks of training it is a surprise...As another member mentioned...how does he get match fit, without even getting some game time?
