Over the last 2 seasons Mangala has been the common link between all of our best defensive displays. Last season, Kompany was dreadful and we looked best when MDM partnered Mangala. At the start of this season we looked great at the back when Kompany partnered Mangala for the first 5 games. The guy is a very good defender. He'll probably always make the odd mistake but he'll make up for it with strong dominating performances once Pep bothers to instil some organisation at the back.

He'll be another in a lengthy list of players written off far too soon on here.

Can't agree. Mangala is awful on the ball. Look how awkward he looks when passing it, it's almost like its an unnatural motion for him. He was good against Leicester cos his physical abilities were all he needed. The guy is an athlete no doubt but he's not a good footballer.

He may appear to be poor on the ball because of his unnatural gangly style but he's not that bad. His distribution is quite decent.

Mangala has to deal with the deficiencies of a central midfield player who just ambles back from upfield and a left back who isn't that great at defending. Then he has to deal with the ridiculous high line defence we have that doesn't pick up runners as they gamble down the channels.
It really is no wonder he is often caught in two minds.

I know that the media hammer our defending but looking back what has Hart had to do in 2 games against the form strikers in the league?

Not been great going forward, but been a lot better defensively than we have been given credit for
Don't buy into the hysteria here or the media drivel. We are in fact the best defensive team in the league. We conceded an average of 9 shots a game, best in the league. Could we be better? Sure. Are we as bad as the hysteria on here suggests, absolutely not.

Not sure if someone already posted this, but during the game I thought mangala was at fault for the Watford goal, I thought he was defending the back post but was too easily drawn away from it. Then I thought wait a minute- someone else should be on the goal line- not a centre half on player marking duty.
So tactically still getting it wrong because that goal was a shocker to concede

I expect he'll be really happy having read that, its the other 40,000 that will be a worry.

He'll improve once he isn't covering other players who are failing/have failed, we need a better left back desperately for me.
Exactly. Its difficult to judge him fairly when he is playing in a backline that contains Kolarov and a midfield lacking the required industry.

Yesterday, Mangala had to handle a striker who had scored in his last six games - did he score ?
On Tuesday Mangala had to handle a striker who had been scoring for fun , was supposedly a target for us and he had another who was scoring too- did they score?
The facts do not lie - Mangala is a good defender - he makes some silly passes but so did Yaya , David and Kevin yesterday
This guy will be immense for City and he will look cheap in years to come
Give the guy a break ffs!

Runs like a cart horse defends like a weeble wobble a liability and one of the worst defenders I've seen at city for 30 years. Need to cut our losses and sell or loan him out of our club.

Really? I mean, genuinely one of the worst in 30 years?

I've watched him and he's been here long enough to be judged he is the worse defender I've seen don't forget some of the other defenders we had were in the days we had a poor team, Thai teams ain't poor it's a team that's won trophies with world class players. Everything he does is wrong slow to react wrong choices lets the ball bounce charges in when he needs to be clam. If he was a 5m buy or a young lad coming through and had 1 games like he plays they wouldn't see the first team again.
