Roberts has been injured hasn't he? He didn't play much football at Fulham either and probably isn't ready to play much for us yet as we have better options in his position that haven't been injured. Denayer was loaned out as the Mangala and MD deals fell through. Not sure what the story was with Lopes as it seems he was sold without the manager knowing but not sure he would have got much game time either to having multiple players for his position.
Well this is my point, if Roberts isn't ready he should of been loaned out, not just training with the first team all season and getting a few EDS cup games thrown in.

Why did we promote Lopes in the first place then when Sterling had signed and KDB was on his way.

Agree on both points though maybe Pellegrini (or whoever makes these decisions) felt he would gain more training with our players and understanding what's required of him this season before he gets opportunities later on. Barker's loan to Rotherham didn't do much for him and maybe he would have been better staying with us.

No youngster gains any sort of understanding and neither it helps his development by sitting on the bench.

Not sure that's fair. We thought Mangala and MD were going and those deals fell through leaving us with 5 CBs. A year's loan for Denayer looked a good move at the time to give him more experience and then reevaluate next season. As it happens injuries and poor form have meant that with hindsight, it would have been better keeping him here (though he's been injured much of the season too).
There's no accounting for injuries and with Kompany's record the club may have felt being potentially left with Otamendi, Denayer and Mangala represented too much of a risk so decided to let Denayer go out on loan and keeping MDM here for another season.

Personally I saw it different. After watching Denayer playing for Celtic and Belgium, I saw enough of him to take a chance and if anything I'd have kept MDM as Denayer's back up because as its turned out if he'd stayed both would have played this season anyway.

I'm not an advocate for throwing academy products in just for the sake of it, but at some point we have to think about our future and start giving the best in our academy a chance to prove themselves. We've had enough matches where we've been far enough ahead that we could have given one or two of our academy boys an extended run out but chosen not to.

My point is this, had Sterling or KDB been in our academy, would they have been given a fair chance to prove themselves?

For example, Denis Suarez is now 10x the player he was with us.

Are you complaining about us loaning Denayer by comparing him with a player who forced a move to Barcelona, and has been in the B team or on loan ever since?

Why exactly did he force a move? It's absurd that we sold him for just over 1M.

Why exactly did he force a move?

You tell me? It can't have been because he was desperate to play first team football as he spent the first year in Barca B and then got loaned out - exactly what we would have done with him if he stayed here.

In fact he's not on loan, he got sold!

Can you imagine! They've done exactly what we did with lopes and Rekik yet you lot are frothing at the mouth and using him as an example of what we don't do. Laughable.
