Could picture Toure and Kolarov biting their respective bottom lips last night; that was an incredible shot and would have passed two goalkeepers. Kolarov can still take them if it favours his side, but Yaya can put the protractor down for now.
If the defender hadn't been on the line the 'keeper would have just caught that shot with absolute ease.

don't think I've ever been happier with a signing at this stage, he's awesome and a player who earns the title Match Winner, Jose what were you thinking ? De-Bruyne and Lukaku LOL

Let that be a lesson to City for Denayer and Iheanacheo!!

Assist stats are misleading anyway as they only count assists that lead to goals. You could provide some great ones, but if the keeper then makes a save or the teamate spoons it over for instance , there is no acknowledgment ,statistically,of your good play.

That's why they use the statistic key chances created

It's the same, in effect, as the shot being saved and being put away. It counts, I'm sure.

I believe the "official" rule is that a pass or shot (regardless of intention) can only be considered as assist if no one (team mate nor opponent) touches the ball in between.

Given the fact that the woodwork (or the referee etc.) is considered a "dead object", I think De Bruyne will get the assist for this one, unlike when a goalkeeper makes a save.

Quite similar to how goal scoring works, it can't be your goal if it wasn't going in and someone else had to make it deflect into the goal. It will however be your goal if you score it in off the post (or in of the referee :D).

Like the Ozil one vs Watford or 2 or 3 of Di Maria's last season, it's not really an assist but it gets lumped in with the others when assist stats come up. It's why stats, whilst useful, aren't everything

I don't entirely agree.

I think it would only be correct for him to get the assist. After all, this goal was 99% his doing, Bony only had to tap it in.

De Bruyne intended for a goal to be scored and a goal was scored. Hence, give him the assist already. It's bad enough he doesn't get the goal.

The shot that hit the post for the goal was ridiculous, he didn't take another touch didn't even seem to look up but knew where the goal was. Incredible player and you can tell he loves playing with Silva.

He does, but I'm actually not too sure if the feeling's mutual ... Am I the only one who had the feeling that Silva was avoiding him a lot in his passing? Consequently, for me it also looked from time to time as if De Bruyne was running/feeling a bit out of place, bit like a tourist against his will. Still managed to knock in 2 goals and a semi assist though, brilliant stuff. But the connection with Silva imo can be worked upon alot.
