Player Topic: Navas.....

For me keep for a year while Patrick Roberts continues to develop at Celtic

Spot on. Navas is a really good player. He and Mangala are both media whipping boys and that overlooks their qualities. Neither is perfect but they are bloody good players.

I completely agree. He has a fantastic attitude and I think Pep will help his game enormously. I watched Spuds last week and what was marked was when they put Navas like crosses into the box, there were three or four players busting a gut to get on the end of them. We just don't do that. But we will next season :-).
Agree too. Huge momentum changer, fast, works hard, tackles, rarely injured and never tired. Second best player for me this season for consistency, behind Fernandinho

Spot on. Amazing the flak he gets, often peddled by an ignorant media who only have the attention span for MOTD type players. He has been fantastic for months-such a great team player. So good to see fellow blues recognise what he gives.

I recognise his work rate and the like but that does not compensate for his ability to hit the first defender or his inability to hit the back of the net.

He's a real Trojan but I feel we need more goals from our front players than we've seen this season whether we play with a 3-1 or a 3 up front next season. We've been way too dependent on Sergio and Kev for goals this season.

i am very surprised that we have very very limited player as navas !!!!!!
did you know that the last time navas scored in the premierleague was since 2 years + 3 months + 2 weeks = 835 days approx !!!!!!!!!!!!!
even the defender otamendi scored > he nooooooooooooo

Navas' good attributes pace, work rate etc are perfect for games against the top teams. However when we are dominating and trying to break teams down I don't think he fits. Good squad player and a must for most of the CL away games. He also regularly fails to link properly with his full back which in turn totally stops Zaba getting behind the defence making him effectively useless in an attacking sense.

Providing cold hard facts into this thread will get you nowhere mate!
Better men than you have tried to convince the blinkered ones, but some fans on here just don't see the merit in a winger scoring for his club on a regular basis.

I was just going to post the same thing. Just been looking at the stats for City players and that was one of the things that stands out a mile.

I like the player. But somehow he has to improve on this aspect of his game.

Bang on. Anyone who thinks Jesus is shit hasn't got a fuckin clue.

He's certainly not shit but he's not a Great either. Barca have three goal scorers up front, two of them in wide positions. If Navas could be relied on the chip in a dozen goals a season he'd be a great option. But he can't. And sure, having only Aguero to hit in the middle is a handicap for a winger but given his penchant for hitting the first defender it wouldn't matter if we threw in Suarez as well.

Attackers don't earn their place in a team with the ambition we have, purely on their workhorse qualities. Those are great to have but the job of an attacker is primarily to create and score goals.

For all his hard work and industry he is sadly a mile away from the quality we require. There will be days in football where a player due to form/injury like Aguero/De Bruyne will not win the game for you and that is when occasionally the likes of Navas need to step up and contribute.

Sadly he never does and often when a situation presents himself he delays or take a touch wide and crosses instead of directly going for goal. It highlights a lack of mental toughness.

Mahrez has hit 16 goals, 12 assists from a similar position. If in a few of those away games, where we struggled to score, he had grabbed a goal this season would be very different.

And whilst Navas was breaking up attack after attack, cutting out passes and covering for Sagna against PSG, Neymar and Suarez where trying their best to see as little of the ball as possible against Athletico.

This notion that wingers hit the byline and get high balls into the box is old-fashioned as far as City are concerned. With a short arsed centre forward in the box it doesn't work. In fact it's counter productive. After the cross goes in the winger is now out of the game (as is the short arsed striker) and their keeper will have the ball to distribute.
I'm sure Navas could get to the line and whip it in all day long but i doubt that will be his instructions of MP.
Also if he's played as an out and out winger he'd probably score even less.

You make some good points but I don't think Navas would score even less if he played in goal.

Well, his attempts to cross a ball generally hit the first defender so no, I don't think he can cross the ball all day long. And he certainly isn't a goal scorer. If all we want is an auxiliary full back then I'm sure there are plenty of specialist wide midfield players. And give me a 'hiding' Suarez or Neymar all day long.

Became obvious to me more than ever after the game that if we are to advance as a team and go to the next level, then players like Jesus Navas simply cannot keep playing 40+ games a season.

In this day and age of having only one up front, in the event that your striker isn't firing you need to have the rest of your front three all being able to find the back of the net.

Having one player who pretty much doesn't at all leaves you at a massive, massive disadvatage and too reliant on certain players.
