Absolute top signing and after most of us were questioning his signing when it happened but wow, what a top defender! If vinny could stay fit then we would be rock solid at CB!
so, ignoring the lack of cash for Negredo (have i got that right?), did we sign Otta because we want 3 top centre halves? or did we sign him bcos someone had already lost faith in Manga's ability to be 1st choice? genuine question, i havent nothing against Manga
My guess is he was a great option buy. A fantastic player who wanted to step up. Besides, considering Kompany consistent injury situation. It was a no brainer. Not to mention, even when Komps played last year, he wasn't very good for a good portion of the season.
Thus, with an injury prone captain, an aging vet, an an up and down big money signing, it was clear we needed another CB. And if they all pan out, we'll have 3 studs. But more likely than not, the sense was Komps wouldn't hold up for a whole season.

I believe when great players come onto the market, you do all you can to get them. Otamendi was arguably the best CB in La Liga last year. Moving for him was a no brainer.
