Depends on your definition of "played well". Sterling's young and has a long career with us ahead of him, so on match days I offer him my full support, but in terms of delivery he's been fairly average. Yes, he gives the side better balance, and his pace makes opposition full backs reluctant to push forward, but his end product (not for the first time) on Saturday was piss-poor. Over hit passes, under hit passes, dribbled into trouble, he was the definition of lightweight and there were plenty of promising situations that broke down because of his poor touch and decision making. He's young and his game management will undoubtedly improve as time goes by, but right now I'd rate him a 6 out of 10 at best

Wheras Aguero's perfect touch & decision making has led to a glut of goals & countless chances created for others.

sterling is just finding his feet,he is very young, but as most would agree he has improved us as a unit , not many players could do that, so we've had a couple of bad results, but in all 3 of those games we should of got something out of them, juve we deserved at least a draw, west ham same as, the spurs defeat was shit, but from what I've heard we should of been out of sight by half time, once Sergio gets his shooting boots on and puts away the chances we will be ok.

Aguero & to a lesser extent, Bony are City's only problems in attack. Sterling, DeBruyne, even Navas & Nasri, have functioned well enough as an attacking unit, that City have had enough ball in dangerous areas that a fully sharp top level striker, say Suarez for instance, would be banging in goals.

The fact is, Bony has done ok as a target man but not much in the box & Aguero has been basically a defender for the opposition, cocking up chances, slowingvdown moves whilst he tries to score himself & constantly failling to pass to players better placed, as well as failling to sniff out any six yard box chances, which most certainly have been there. Add to that a complete lack of aerial threat, effectively ruling out any kind of traditional cross from Kolarov, DeBruyne, or anyone else.

If/when he, or Bony, Start functioning properly, then so will Sterling.

At the moment he & the rest of the midfield are being expected to do the job of strikers, as we don't have any, & when they do nick a goal, rather than protect it, & hit on the break, which both Sterling & DeBruyne specialise in, we leave great big fucking holes for the oppo to equalise, thefefore end up facing a packed defence again.

None of this is Sterling's fault.

No, obviously not, but then this is the Raheem Sterling thread, not Raheem Sterling compared to everyone else

Well it should be compared to everyone else. It's not fair imo to pick holes in Sterling when there is so much else wrong. He is a kid trying his best to make stuff happen in a system which is failling. If the team is playing brilliantly & Sterling is behind everyone else, then he deserves his faillings pointing out. Not when better players are making bigger mistakes next to him.

But not before our flapping and bitching quota has been fulfilled. If you think back to the start of the season when everything was hunky dory and there were calm blue seas ahead, there must have been some of our posters that were feeling left out and redundant because they weren't finding an outlet to unleash their massive football knowledge and nous onto. Then lo and behold, the footballing gods came to the rescue. We lost 3 out of the last 4 matches and suddenly we're shit. Sterling's shit. Navas is shit. Pellegrini is shit. Even KDB is shit. In fact I'm waiting for someone to call for Sheikh Mansour to be made to sell up because of the shit job he's done since he rolled up. All in all I, like most of our supporters, am pretty disappointed with the way things have gone for us the last few matches but I am cheered to know that it has at least returned a sense of purpose and normality to the lives of some of our fellow Bluemooners.

Dont know why the jury is out on him. This is a 20 year old kid we got less than 4 months ago, only played 9 competitive games, scored 2, assisted 2 and created a decent number of chances from the left wing, added pace to our attack and play and people still slating him. Just let him be and if we knew we were getting a 20 year old GOAL SCORING winger we would have paid a 100 million pounds!!!!!!!!

It's a fair point, but only if it cuts both ways. Aguero's contribution might not be helping Sterling, but Sterling's isn't helping Aguero's either. It will obviously get better the more they play together, but just as Aguero is scuffing chances, playing with his head down and slipping on his arse every 5 minutes, so Sterling passing the ball out of play as Kolarov overlaps, or under his feet, or putting it too close to the full back so that it gets intercepted, not to mention scuffing his own shots, isn't helping Aguero any either.

I'm not slating Sterling, cos I can see what he does bring to the team, I can see he's trying hard, and I want him to do well, but regardless of what others may or may not be doing, he's not been up to scratch so far IMO, and particularly not during the last 3 or 4 games

The point is though this thread is about him. Aguero is getting criticism on the Aguero thread. You don't just criticise the one player of the team who deserves it the most, that's not how things work. Each player who deserves criticism will undoubtedly, and quite rightly get it.

Take Spurs 3rd goal for example on Saturday. It came from Sterling giving the ball away for the umpteenth time while we were in a good position. Of course Aguero and De Bruyne were guilty of it too, but this thread is about Sterling and that example was typical of his play so far this season.

Has he beat a man in and around the opposition penalty box yet this season? He either runs into the defender or misplaces the simplest of passes.

To one extent his pace and directness is a great asset but him continually conceding possession invites so much pressure on us.

The spurs fans were singing about him being a shit Aaron Lennon. I hope he proves them wrong but from what I've seen from him bar half a season at Liverpool, they're not far wrong.

P.s. I know the spurs 3rd came from an offside, but I'm meaning that Sterling gave away the possession which led to the full situation happening. It was one of many examples from Saturday.
