I agree and I've actually said in the Aguero thread that he's being given the benefit of the doubt due to previous seasons.

Still, I do think Sterling should have been taking his chances too.

Sterling just isn't Aguero, or George Best or Kinkladze. He is what he is & he's a kid.

He is working really hard, creating some chances & scoring the odd goal. If we played on the counter attack, he'd be doing much better still. If we had Suarez from his Liverpool days playing up front, he'd be linking up with him.

Yes, Bony is also not allowed to make mistakes, same with Navas. If Aguero & Silva fail to shoot accurately or miss chances, they get a free pass because of their previous exploits.

Imo you would expect them to be performing at a much higher level than Sterling or Bony, or Navas, because they are proven better players. But if they don't, the main topic is how Navas, Bony, Sterling should have won us the game instead.

Bony & Sterling in particular, deserve plenty of leeway imo. They are new to the team.

If Aguero was anywhere near his best, we would be clear at the top of the league & have 3 points in the Champs Lg. His is bobbins.

Sterling doesn't even deserve a mention, he is doing fine.

Good to see that some posters can see the real situation

He's bedding in won't see him properly until he build up more of a relationship with his team mates including Aguero.

Great player.

I can't believe what I'm reading here. When did we stop getting behind our new players and giving them time to bed in? This impetuous impatience is just silly and very short sighted.

You've obviously got our entire left sided game plan down...And if you are correct and someone like you can see it, we're fucked

I would politely suggest I may have flushed more football knowledge in the past 51 yrs than you have ever amassed. That is not to suggest you know nothing about football, just that you seem blind to the way City have operated down the flanks for the past few years.

Take a second to read the rest of the thread and you might see a theme....and I don't mean the theme about Sterling being crap and that we overpaid, because I don't believe either thing. But, he does need to understand his role in a well oiled machine, and that if his cog is not going to operate as required, then the machine is not going to operate as planned.

I'll leave it there, because I'm not sure you know who "someone like you" actually is, and while the evisceration might be fun for me, I just don't have the appetite for it today.

Despite not taking his chances, Sterling has played really well so far - his pace and reading of the game have created goalscoring opportunities every game .

Makes me laugh, most of the people on here slating Sterling will be the same ones saying "We missed Sterling" when he doesn't play. It'll take time for him to be fully up to speed with our style. He hasn't done a lot wrong so far and there is more positive signs than negative.

Depends on your definition of "played well". Sterling's young and has a long career with us ahead of him, so on match days I offer him my full support, but in terms of delivery he's been fairly average. Yes, he gives the side better balance, and his pace makes opposition full backs reluctant to push forward, but his end product (not for the first time) on Saturday was piss-poor. Over hit passes, under hit passes, dribbled into trouble, he was the definition of lightweight and there were plenty of promising situations that broke down because of his poor touch and decision making. He's young and his game management will undoubtedly improve as time goes by, but right now I'd rate him a 6 out of 10 at best
