Player Topic: Raheem Sterling (2015/16)

Read a piece from last year comparing Sterling to Ronaldo at the same age. Sterling had more goals, assists, chances created, shot accuracy and shot conversion rate.

Not posting this to suggest he'll turn out a better player, just that most players at 19/20 aren't the finished product.

FWIW in the year Ronaldo turned 21 he scored 12 goals from 36 starts and 9 sub appearances. Sterling turns 21 this December I think, he has 6 from 16 starts and 2 sub appearances.

I know some find it hard to show a bit of patience with a 20 year old kid, but these might find themselves in for a surprise in the near future.

Would we have given the same defence and still be using it for Devante Cole had we kept him and played him in almost every game up until now? Or would we have saw him for what he is and called it. The answer is nothing but the latter.

If Devante had come in and scored six goals in his first few months and dominated a champions league match I'd be very happy to keep him in and around the squad.

Well that's cleared that up. Thanks for addressing any of the points I've made. It seems "he's only 20" is genuinely the only argument which suggests he might turn out ok. Not what he's doing on the park, simply his age.

Understand what you are saying, Ayrshire, but I think the main relevance of age is consistency. Also, in most jobs you tend to build up a bit more adaptability/versatility with age. "Shite" is a bit harsh as an overall summation, even if true on some occasions.

Fair enough, average is probably more fitting. Average though is shite on our levels...if that makes any sense! If it was the odd poor performance or the odd poor miss I wouldn't be on here. It's the fact I've seen nothing from him which suggests he's going to be anything like good enough to play for one of Europe's top sides. His performance in seville was excellent, but it seems he is consistently average/poor and THAT game was the exception rather than the likes of Liverpool, Villa or last night.

What's more depressing is the amount of people using "he's 20" as some sort of defence.

Who cares about his age when he's shite?

Another thing; what's the option? We keep playing him week in week out despite being absolute dross to the detriment of the team and our results in the hope that we might improve him? Madness.

Calling him shite makes you look like a clown. Comparing a player who's already done plenty for club and country with Devante Cole makes you look like a clown. I can only summise you are indeed, a clown.

What "points" did you make exactly? He's dross? He's shite? Well done. You're a fucking genius - if only we had guys like you in the media defending the club. Oh wait ...

He needs to send his fuc*ing piano back an spend the time practicing his finishing, anyone can miss the odd sitter, but this "20 year old" is fast becoming consistent at it.

To be fair to him, he can not help what we paid out for his services, nor does he put himself in the team, but if I was him I would be spending every waking moment working on what is a glaring weakness in his game.

Meh, if you wish to defend the indefensible then so be it. Txiki is a genius and all his signings and appointments will be of great benefit to our club.

My job as a fan is to want what's best for the club, which isn't always defending every player and signing, don't be ridiculous.

I've backed up plenty of posts with why I think he's dross. Poor passing, crossing, decision making, dribbling, finishing.

Just because you can type the words "poor passing, crossing, decision making, dribbling, finishing" doesn't make them true or facts. Maybe if you were actually more of a fucking genius and less of a gobshite you'd know that.

He has been a 6/10 so far. Needs to start stepping it up. Cant keep on costing us with his poor finishing.
