One of those players who's at his best when playing instinctively i think, 2 lovely touches to set up goals, 2 first time finishes and a good first time volley saved. When he has time on the ball though he looks a little uncertain what to do and often ends up losing it in good positions. He can be absolutely destructive at times, a very exciting future ahead!

Sterling is the hero city deserves and the one it needs right now.

Pace and tenacity. Dude kept his foot on the gas and kept attacking all night. Great work rate.

Don't agree with this, he's shown a lot of composure when holding on to the ball for extended periods.

I think his biggest problem is confidence in front of goal, probably not helped by constant bashing of his finishing ability in the media.

Once he plucks up the confidence to be a bit selfish or just take a shot instead of waiting for the situation to develop into one he can't miss, his finishing is great for a 21 year old.

Delighted for the kid. First half in 211 all I could heard every time he got the ball (aside from the germans) was 'useless ****', 'lazy twat' etc etc. Think some people need to their heads a serious wobble and allow this rough diamond we have at our disposal to become the player that we all (?) want him to be. THIS WILL TAKE TIME.

I agree he's good at keeping the ball, i actually think that's obviously improved since he's been here, however when he has time and goes to shoot or attack the defender he just doesn't yet do it with any conviction or confidence for me. I'd like to see him take a few more risks, instead of just revering to his comfort zone of trying to cut in onto his right foot.

A lot of players would have let their heads drop after missing a few chances, fair play to him for digging deep and not giving up, great attitude and deserved to score both goals

Part of it is moving to a club with other good options IMO. At Liverpool he had no one to help him out last season - if he didn't take on a shot or try something then no one would.

Here he gets the ball on the edge of the box and Kolarov is outside him, Silva and KDB are inside, Aguero is in the box and Yaya is nearby.

Obviously Pellegrini drills the team to keep hold of the ball, so if you're the new kid and only 20, do you try a dribble into the box, taking on a few defenders, or donyounpass it to one of the established world class stars? And then if he does go himself, it seems like he doubts the decision.

As he settles in more and more and nights like this make him an important member of the team not "the new kid" I think he'll start taking people on and we won't get those frustrating moments where he simply stops on the edge of the box before half heartedly taking someone on. And with that will come more games like tonight I think.
