Thought he was the best player on the pitch even before he banged two in. I still have very little doubt he's going to be a top player
Aye thought the same thing just before halftime that even though Silva scored, Sterling has been our best player. Right at that time he put that cross in which was a bit too high for Delph but a decent cross none the less.

I sometimes judge Sterling taking in the amount of money we paid for him. It's not fair to do so, let alone we overpaid like we have done with more players (yet we do have these players in our squad). It's a bit unfair because of his age (think he turned 21 yesterday), despite the fact he has already played a few seasons of PL football. Wingplayers are often inconsistent. Young players are as well. He is both. But you have to be blind to miss the talent he brings with him. He needs to learn a lot and he seems very eager to learn so that's a good thing. I'm sure City is the perfect environment for him. We need to be patient with the player. I need to be at times ...

After 262 pages - Eureka!

We can all see he's been a bit inconsistent thus far. But that is natural for a 21 year old. By 23/24, he may well be producing these performances on a regular basis. Just to say, however, he's been our best player in the Champions League so far without a doubt.

Delighted for the kid. First half in 211 all I could heard every time he got the ball (aside from the germans) was 'useless ****', 'lazy twat' etc etc. Think some people need to their heads a serious wobble and allow this rough diamond we have at our disposal to become the player that we all (?) want him to be. THIS WILL TAKE TIME.
Yep it's absolutely ridiculous. Never seen a young player get criticized for his finishing so much in my life.

The simple answer is he misses easier chances cos of his age. The fact that he scores goals like the second is the thing to grab onto, not the fact that he can miss easier ones. We really do forget how young he is. At that age youre looking for players who cna produce magic, then smooth out the raw edges. That's exactly what we're doing. I suspect he'll be a considerably more confident player in a couple of years.

Frank Ribery, the player who he could most likely emulate, was playing for Galatasary doing okay at the same age. Then his stats and reputation suddenly vastly improved by the age of 23....not a coincidence.

Quite a lot of the best players have a big upswing around that age. Ronaldo went from 15 gls to 30, Rooney started getting 20 goals a season, De Bruyne broke out at 23, so did Hazard, Alexis Sanchez, Aguero etc. It's amazing how many players go from promising youngster to world class in that age.

I would be looking to 2018 or the 18/19 season as a milestone where Sterling would need to make that jump from inconsistent youngster capable of brilliance to world class winger.

But obviously he could also do it before or slightly later.

Certain City fans need to give Sterling a break. I thought he was great last night, even prior to the 2 goals. And the impact he has made to our team has been outstanding. He's added pace and allowed us to play 10 yards higher (we need to learn when and when not to play so high, but thats for a different thread).

At 21 he has the energy we would be lost without, He wouldn't offer us a genuine Plan B. If he had come through our academy, and he performed like he did on a champions league night like last night he would be our most loved player, our most valuable young player we've probably ever produced. The only reason people seem to feel anger to him is because we paid £50m for him. But think about this, he's not worth £50 on his current ability. We paid big money for his HG status and the vast amount of potential ahead of him. and what's the money directly mean to you?

Based on the above, If we had signed iheanacho from another club at his current age, how much would he be worth? 20-30M? Based on potential only. We all absolutely love him because he's come through our academy and he's young. If we had spent £30m on him and he had only played and performed as much as he had, what would we make of him? He would have people like myself defending him and a good chunk of people slagging him off, saying we should have spent money on a finished article, i.e. another bony

Sterling will be great. Liverpool saw it in him, City see it in him and so do England. We all know that he has certain specific areas where he can improve i.e. finishing, Final Ball. All these areas can and will be improved playing alongside people Like Sergio and the rest.

It's crucial to get behind him and not on his back, at his age and as a winger, His game is all about confidence.

i had a friendly bet with a spuds fan at work after we bought sterling he was banging on about paying so much for a player like sterling who can not finish so i said he will score at least 10 goals this season well bet won with still half a season left :)

The lad is only 21 no where near the finished product and to think he is still learning the game and is only going to get better.
