Certain City fans need to give Sterling a break. I thought he was great last night, even prior to the 2 goals. And the impact he has made to our team has been outstanding. He's added pace and allowed us to play 10 yards higher (we need to learn when and when not to play so high, but thats for a different thread).
At 21 he has the energy we would be lost without, He wouldn't offer us a genuine Plan B. If he had come through our academy, and he performed like he did on a champions league night like last night he would be our most loved player, our most valuable young player we've probably ever produced. The only reason people seem to feel anger to him is because we paid £50m for him. But think about this, he's not worth £50 on his current ability. We paid big money for his HG status and the vast amount of potential ahead of him. and what's the money directly mean to you?
Based on the above, If we had signed iheanacho from another club at his current age, how much would he be worth? 20-30M? Based on potential only. We all absolutely love him because he's come through our academy and he's young. If we had spent £30m on him and he had only played and performed as much as he had, what would we make of him? He would have people like myself defending him and a good chunk of people slagging him off, saying we should have spent money on a finished article, i.e. another bony
Sterling will be great. Liverpool saw it in him, City see it in him and so do England. We all know that he has certain specific areas where he can improve i.e. finishing, Final Ball. All these areas can and will be improved playing alongside people Like Sergio and the rest.
It's crucial to get behind him and not on his back, at his age and as a winger, His game is all about confidence.
