Sterling has to play on the left. It's just that he's much more effective with Silva plays in the middle next to him. When teams like West Ham parks the bus Silva, Sterling and Kolorov can link up and break them down. Without Silva, Sterling was a little more isolated and not as effective. De Bruyne is a good player, but is still learning out system and can't fault him with not trying to link up with Sterling and Kolorov better. Against Juve it was different because as soon as Silva got the ball there were 2 or 3 Juve players closing him down. In those cases Silva should play the ball directly back to Yaya or Fern and Sterling should try to get in the space left by the defenders. Still a work in progress that he needs to learn how defences differ.
