When Brian Kidd was at Leeds, O'Leary had a bit of a moan about how he told all the players they were superstars. O'Leary then had to explain to the ones that werent selected that they werent quite that good.

I expect in most clubs there will be a "good cop" whose job includes bigging up the players

I'm sure that you're on the money mate, just pointing out the misquoting of Jovetic from the poster I responded to ;.)

I didn't quote.

No you didn't, you implied that he said he was a great player. If you misread the interview, just say so.

I'm not looking for an argument, just making clear that he didn't say he was a great player.

I'll bow out for now, because, unlike you, I haven't got a scooby about what goes on in our players minds :)

Damn right I implied, the bits in bold are why I implied:

The 25-year-old told mirror.co.uk: 'I deserve to play in the Champions League. I know that.

'The manager has killed me with this decision. I feel I deserve my place and other people have told me the same.

'People have told me I am a great player, but it is clear that the manager doesn't think the same way.'

'I am very disappointed, even now. I don't think it was a good decision – or the right decision.'

'I know that I deserve to be on the list. I told the manager this, but he didn't want to listen to me. I came here to play in the Champions League.'

Jovetic, who attracted interest from Italian duo Inter Milan and Juventus in January, added: 'I have not made any decision about my future. I will wait until the summer then we will see.

'But the manager has put other players ahead of me, so maybe this is a message about what he wants to do.

'It is difficult to be focused when something like this happens, but I am a professional and I want to show that I can still play a big part this season.'

'This is a bad time for me, but I am working hard and I will be there for the team.'

Jovetic said: 'I have spent all week thinking about it and when we play Barcelona I think it will be very difficult for me.

'I think I helped the team get through the group and, because of that, I am very unhappy that I am out.

'This year, every time I have played, I think I have done well. I have score five goals in the Premier League without having too many minutes on the pitch.

'I know that we can all have disappointments – that's football – but I am hurting really bad right now.

'Of course, the squad has been made smaller, but the club knew this at the start of the season. I don't feel I have had a chance. Okay, I have had injuries but so have other players.'

You could start a fight in an empty phone box.

My only point was that the lad didn't say he was a great player.

Thanks for reconfirming. There really is no need to be confrontational when someone points to an error in one of your posts, we all make them.

I aint looking to lock heads either, but if you read my post again, you will see... and I quote:

True, but neither did Jovetic back up why he thinks he is great. Furthermore I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why he thinks Siere A is "the most difficult league in the world". Really. I can understand you might feel he has not contributed as much as HE would have liked, but to say that is rediculous, and shows you have little understanding.

I think you clearly have no understanding !!!

read his quotes.. he thinks he has contributed more than enough so you're talking nonsense pal.

He is shite and not good enough for a top premier league team. He might do ok in another country and i wish him well.

I will leave you with your immatute thoughts then.

Stop trying to make out you're some sort of intellect, your spelling is a joke and you clearly know absolutely nothing about football. I've probably forgotten more than you know..... Run along now

The main reason Jovetic was omitted was not his playing quality (which has been good enough to merit at least a place on the bench), but his glass physique. With Aguero already fragile, we cant afford another hospital ward regular. If he were consistently fit this season, I would bank that he would have been selected over Dzeko for the squad.

Bit of a storm in a teacup, isn't it? You'd expect him to be bitterly disappointed at being left out, and I don't see too much to get agitated about in the actual quotes.

As far as the original decision goes, I think it's understandable enough given Jovetic's injury record - if it comes down to a straight choice between him and Dzeko, I can see why Pellegrini went the way he did.

For what it's worth, had it been me, I'd have left out Kolarov - don't really see the need for two specialist left backs, and if Clichy were to get injured (and he almost never does), I'd prefer to play Zaba there (Sagna and Mangala could both fill in as well).
