Purely on an emotional basis I want Vinnie to come back as before but at the moment he is only in the team based on reputation.

He used to be our thoroughbred, but now?....

To be fair to Kompany, he had a midfield in front of him comprising of Evans as the only remotely defensive midfielder (while Denayer had Zuculini as well).

Today he was poor, but actually thought he looked promising early on in pre-season so not reading anything into it yet.

As to who starts next week, no idea!

I agree but his poor sharpness and his positioning is still a concern .I am not entirely sure who to blame .

Might sound crazy but maybe a 3-5-2 formation could help Vinny. We all know the LB position is useless right now so why stick with playing a back 4 ? a 3-5-2 formation with Vinny-Mangala and Zaba and a 5 man midfield spread out in front of them could help. we would have 2 fixed DM's in front of the back 3 and 3 attacking midfielders to compliment the 2 attackers up front. Should look something like this:

Hart
Zaba - Vinny- Demi/Mangala/Denayer
Fernandinho - Delph /Zuc
Sterling- Yaya -Silva
Nacho/Bony - Aguero

Why is nobody taking into consideration that Kompany and Mangala had no protection today and have had minimal protection for most of last season too. Kompany has been average but what can you do when you get midfield runners coming at you + strikers moving off you. With Delph/Fernandinho in the side, Kompany will look solid, if I'm wrong then sell him eh
