Yeah your interpretation is a bit more negative than mine. Not sure I'd use the words 'aimless' 'wasn't ready' and 'in vain'Looked more like he wasn't ready/ball didn't take the path he wanted so aimlessly stuck a toe on it in vain. It's all about the interpretation I guess.
