Player Topic: Wilfried Bony (2015/16)

The one thing what stood out about Bony when he was at Swansea was his technique. He really was top drawer in the way he finished his chances. He was the type of player who would skilfully place the ball into the net instead of lashing it. IIRC his first goal for us was a chance where he placed the ball on the volley into the top corner when the natural thing to do would have been hammer it into the net.

It just seems like he is trying to hard to score. Maybe it's the fact he knows that Aguero is always going to be top dog is putting unneeded pressure onto him. It seems like every time he steps foot onto the pitch he feels like he needs to score a hat-trick and prove a point. If he played his natural game and played without pressure he would became the player we know he can be.

For example, if Bony would have gone off after 60 minutes, we would have been all talking about a good performance and how he led the line well and scored a very good goal. Instead he has tried to do too much and has missed a penalty and then tried to over compensate and missed another sitter.

There is definitely a good player there. Someone who can score 20+ goals a season for us. He just needs to mentally adapt to being at a club who are going to challenge for major honours.

I am more than happy with Bony as one of three experiences strikers with Kun, I think we need another. But I think we will sign a top top forward in the summer. Therefore we just need a player who can come till May or possibly 18 months for a big pay day, someone probably early 30's and top drawer but no longer expecting week in week out games. I hate him so wouldn't want it to be him but a RVP type , villa would do but wouldn't work if he had to leave March . Otherwise someone you could get for 10m and sell on if pep didn't like them.

In your opinion.

Not in mine.

Pellegrini has no interest in holistic longevity. And Nacho has been far better than Bony when in the team.

It's not a fucking opinion, he's literally played Navas with Sterling up front instead of Nacho before.

That's fact, so Bony isn't the reason Iheanacho isn't playing.

When Iheanacho was injured you mean?

Nah, to be fair Manuel outright snubbed Kelechi when Bony went off injured early against Villa several weeks back.

He brought Navas on and played De Bruyne as a false nine. Then tried Sterling up front before bringing Kelechi on for the last 5 minutes.

Manuel's record with youth will be one of the biggest black marks against him in his time here.

If we're going to play him, we have to play to his strengths - we don't see enough good crosses in the air to him to take advantage of his heading ability. It's pointless otherwise.

Luckily he won't be here next season impeding some top young players' progress.

This!
Bony is more than capable and his hold up play is fantastic. We just do not give him the service he needs to shine. As simple as that.

Of course he misses chances, all strikers do. But we never put the ball in the box to him in the air and we didn't for Dzeko either.

I thought Bony was good apart from the penalty miss. He missed another good chance when De Bruyne's shot was saved, but excellent hold up play.

The goals are flowing now.

If we are going to cross, Bony has to do his part and stop checking his runs for pull backs. He keeps doing this and it is doing my head in. A big powerful striker like Bony should be pressuring the 6 yard box, not pulling off a run hoping for a cut back. He is good in the air and probably would score more with both more service and an adjustment to his play. Too often you see KDB or Navas or Kolarov trying to find a cross but No blue shirts are offering a run.
