You think the team has been giving it everything they've got in all the games we've played so far? I don't.
I'm sure Pellegrini is fully aware of Yaya's capabilities and deficiencies.

Individuals who charge around doing there own thin, like Tevez and Yaya, can work in the disorganised premier league, but it doesn't work in the champions league. The best teams are about the team, not the individuals.Rolee said:BigOscar said:Yup. It's cost us every year in the CL, even when Yaya was at his best.
Every year? We're only playing this way for our second year now.

I'm not witnessing a lack of effort from many, just frustration.......which in turn has led to poor performances.
If the boss is aware of Yaya's strengths,he has a funny way of showing it.

Yaya has divided opinions for a number of reasons this season, but from a playing point of view, many are saying that his legs have gone and he can no longer play the kind of game you would yearn for. His defensive work isn't up to it and his lung busting runs are few and far between. Far better to let hin play a pure midfield game with Dinho and Nando supporting the defence, allowing Yaya to have fewer yards to cover. Yaya and Silva, with our wide open pitch size to help them, are far too clever to trip over each other and would easily handle our game plan. Remember, we aren't talking of players like Sibierski and Bosvelt anymore!Rolee said:I'm no cynic said:From deep, yes. Through the middle, yes. But when did you ever see Silva and Yaya tripping over each other? Silva is mobile and is best with his free role as we saw with his goal against WHU when he came in from the right.Rolee said:Back to my original point then, which is Silva and Yaya will be tripping over each other if Yaya plays advanced and Silva carries on as before.
Yaya's strongest game is dictating the game from deep.
I haven't seen them tripping over each other, what I'm saying is if you push Yaya forward then he'll occupy the space that Silva thrives in, making the area too congested which will lead to them tripping over each other.
It seems to me that those calling for Yaya to be pushed forward are pining for Mancini's tactics from the 2010/11 season.

So you're telling me that you didn't see any difference in the workrate between the derby and the Chelsea game as opposed to say the West Ham or Newcastle games?

I thought we set up wrong in the two games you mention, and that wasn't hindsight.
Fernando was far, far better than him in the first half against 11. Not only defensively, as you'd expect, but he even created two fantastic chances for Aguero. Toure was little more than a traffic cone when they had the ball and really struggled to to get control with the ball. How you can claim he was our best midfielder "by a country mile" is beyond me.Mister Appointment said:Toure was our best midfielder by a country mile in the first half. Anyone who thinks he had a poor game before the sending off needs to watch that first half again. He schooled Rooney in knowing when to break and when to sit deep, which is why he found spaces to play dangerous passes (like the one to Zaba which started the move which led to Navas hitting the post), and whey he became more influential as the half wore on.
I know exactly what he's being criticised for. One action early in the first half where he was slow to get back into position, Fernando had to step up and close down a United player, and they played a triangle around him which allowed Fellaini to break towards our box just as Yaya arrived on the scene. That's one action in an otherwise almost perfect midfield display from the big man.
Was good to see him getting back to close to his best.
