He simply doesn't work hard enough off the ball in the Champion's League.

We all know the quality he has, but it's fine margins in the CL and he simply isn't doing enough.

Seems like everybody's realised Yaya can't play in a midfield 2, so what about a midfield trio with Fernando and Fernandinho? It would help Yaya, but push Silva out wide where defensively he isn't great and teams can exploit it.

Silva in the number 10 role and Yaya as an impact sub in most CL games for me.

It's interesting our best result in the CL (away at Bayern) was when Yaya was out - the team was so much better balanced that night.
what did you think of his performance away at real madrid, when we narrowly lost and he was outstanding?

Sorry... let's look at at current form.

Yaya is way off the pace. at the moment...
It gives me no pleasure noting this as this man has been immense for us over the years

I can't help feeling that his brother's death this summer might be having some impact
yep..which is kinda the point ive been making in various posts....

How about Fernando, Fernandinho and Yaya as the midfield three? This would give stability and allow Yaya to ping the ball around. Up front, Dzeko and Aguero, which would give us height and options up front. And Silva playing in behind them - allowing him to play centrally.

That could work to be honest, but we may need a left sided Zabaleta (Solid in defence & attack) or we'll either be way too narrow with Clichy or way too exposed with Kolarov (and Clichy aswell probably to be fair). Sign a guy with the pace and quality of Jordi Alba for example and I think that is a very viable formation for us in Europe. It leaves very little room for Navas, Nasri and Milner or a wide forward like Reus is we were to buy him however.

I'm guessing a shape like this, with Silva given licence to roam across the pitch, Aguero running the channels. Yaya taking up the central space while we are attacking with Edin staying up top as a focal point. Full backs provide the overlap.

Sounds good to me.

Re: Yaya?

Fernando's absence has been absolutely key for us vs Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern and Roma.

With him in the team, Yaya pushes forward, Fernandinho goes box to box, and Fernando provides that final wall ahead of the defence. I doubt Totti would have received the ball he did on Tuesday if the Octopus had been playing.

Hope he's fit soon so that Yaya can relax and perform to the standard we know he can.

Been thinking about the free kick just outside the box that he failed to take despite the fact it was similar to the position from where he was knocking them in for fun last season. No good reason for him not to take it from what I could see. Did he not want to score?

My missus said he was ambling about like an 80 year old rather than a 60 year old which is the norm. It appears to me he doesn't want to play for the fans anymore.

Does your missus know his brother died a few weeks ago?
Why do you ask did yaya not want to score? did you see his two brilliant long range efforts against hull? do you really think he wanted to score at the weekend, but didnt want to score last night? what sort of yaya agenda theory are you really advancing pal?

If you are going to defend him, get your facts correct. His brother did not die a few weeks ago. Its October and his brother died in June. And THEN Yaya personally and publicly blamed City for not allowing him to see his brother before he died. That statement was a intentional lie that even his parents contradict. Those are facts. Once you understand them, you can begin talking about agenda theories.

Re: Yaya?

I'm not sure if Yaya has the physical capability to do as much as people want anymore, unless they get him on some sort of fitness program. I saw him track back and tackle against Roma and he just couldn't get up the pitch to join the subsequent attack fast enough. It seems like, unless playing weaker opposition, a 3-man midfield or pushing him into a more permanent attacking midfield role, may be the only answers. There is no way Yaya can press and harry in the midfield for 90 minutes, absolutely none. It does look like his fitness could improve though.

Yaya's been relaxing far too much lately.

Re: Yaya?

Does anyone know whether it's true or not that Yaya has in his contract that he can't be dropped for league or champions league games?

Wasn't he completely dropped in the league recently?

I think he's play okay last few games, he was decent against Chelsea and decent in the second half the other night.
