Put in a bit more effort but little quality. His abilities have dwindled noticeably over the last two years, albeit from a great height.
I thought he somehow lacked precision in his game last night. My impression was that many of his passes were slightly off the mark, and his shots did not go where he wanted them to. Is this lack of form, or a permanent decrease of abilities?

I don't think there's any question that there has been a decline. However, that is from a great height as others have said. It's hard to see him as an automatic starter in the style of play Pellers prefers now.

But let's not lose sight of how great he has been for us. Whenever he decides to move on it'll be with a standing ovation from me.

Silva wouldn't need to be a wide forward though. With a technically gifted midfield 3, as well as having Silva, we should able to retain possession long enough to allow Clichy or Kokarov to push up and become a midfielder (when in possession). Silva can then float between the lines and do what he does best.

So in essence, we would have a midfield 3 of Toure, Dinho and one other player, flanked by Sagna and Clichy, with Silva and De Bruyne operating behind Aguero. We double up on width in every single game yet we don't cross the ball or cut in and shoot.

As for the debate between Yaya and Sterling, it's personal preference. When he has other ball players around him, Yaya offers us much more in my opinion. And Sterling isn't good enough for us to line up with a midfield 2. There needs to be 3 in the middle in the majority of matches because otherwise we get out numbered.

As for the Liverpool game, it wasn't just about 'earning the right to play'. They were technically very clever. They double teamed Toure and stopped him from turning with the ball and they pressed our technically poorer players. We can run all day and fight all day but if you don't have the technical skills to deal with the ball under pressure, then you won't get anywhere, and this is our problem. We try and play possession based football but only about 60% of our team are comfortable with the ball under pressure. Certain players struggle to sort their feet out or require too many touches. Against Liverpool that was hugely evident.

I respect your opinion but where is the variety? By playing Silva and De Bruyne behind Aguero you're basically nullifying our ability to run in behind, unless you wait, wait, wait.... wait a bit more and hope one of the fullbacks arrives just as the opposition get all 11 men back behind the ball marking Aguero the smallest striker in world football. So you're then trying to thread the ball through the eye of a needle, exactly why we got shut of Mancini.

Without pace to get in behind and dribbling ability to commit defenders your options of scoring goals are limited. That's why we need Sterling and to a lesser extent Navas, they may not be as technically gifted as Yaya or whoever else but neither are Firmino, Cuntinho and whoever else them scouse cunts had up front.

Can you not see the only way to break that Liverpool press was to be more direct and get the ball to our wide players quicker? We needed to get them facing their own goal, even if it needed a Sam Alladyce style punt into the corner flag and pin them in.

I agree with most of that, we do need a variety and I think we are probably both talking about approaches that would both be successful in certain games.

As for combating Liverpool, I still think having players who are comfortable in possession is the best way to stop them from pressing so hard. I see your logic but I don't think we have anyone really capable of launching cross field diagonals on a regular basis, not do we have the height to actually control anything that lands any higher than the waist up. Of course, if we had technically sounder full backs, those sort of passes would be within our options.

We did 100% need the speed to quickly get the ball into the final third to bypass the press, but we fielded half a team of players who just don't have the technical ability or composure to deal with it. In our current state, I think dropping him to create space for an extra attacker only adds to our problems, purely because I consider only Fernandinho to be good enough to even attempt to control the game from a deeper position, and even that isn't a natural thing for him. Yaya is still our best option in that regard, and while I agree he probably isn't the player he was a couple of years ago, I still haven't seen anything in Sterling that makes me think he's worth being a man light in midfield for. He can probably improve, but until he does, I wouldn't chance it all too often. Not for me anyway.

Without Silva and to some extent Nasri everything creative comes through him. Stop Yaya =stop City. We have been sussed.
That's all Liverpool did. They double pressed Yaya regardless of what he was doing yet they only pressed Mangala, Demi and Fernando when they had the ball in unfavourable positions. At other times, they simply let them have it and cut off the option to give it to Toure. The end result was us losing the ball a lot in our own half.

He's not really that old, just about 20lbs overweight. By that I mean , I don't think it's an age thing, he's unfit.

Yes! Been saying this since the days of Micah, Lescott and De Jong. Back in the hay day when their defensive fortitude were so exalted that folks refused to find fault with them. Comfort on the ball, is the absolute basic requirement every City player MUST possess. Ignore all other great quality if this specific one is lacking. Simply put, those who don't have it simply shouldn't apply. Second, we need a pressure mentality, that unfortunately is about coaching philosophy. Hence why our coach can't and shouldn't last.

Most teams can't afford defenders who are comfortable on the ball, and the best way to break most teams down is to pressure their defenders intensely. Funny enough, when we started doing it to Juventus, they started making mistakes defensively. The whole right side, Barzagli, and lienchenstein or whatever his name is, we're both terrible on the ball and wilted constantly under pressure. Only the left back was decent on the ball, yet we often let them walk it out of the back in the 1st half.
