You have to say he has a fair point when some are suggesting they would rather play Fernando over one of the greatest players of his generation.

The guy is absolutely crucial to the way we play. He is the one who collects the ball and links the defence to attack, controls the game by retaining the ball and scores heavily as well as crucial goals.

He has probably been the most important player over the past 5 years and yet by some, among his own fanbase, he is not fully appreciated.
Don't think there's anything wrong with people suggesting Fernando over Yaya for tactical reasons, not really a criticism of Yaya so much as how the team play as a whole & what people think would be most effective in certain match ups. Pellers sees the team week in week out - he'll know if Yaya is up for the job & play him accordingly rather than us who see him once/twice a week & have to judge off of that.

Think everyone has critics, but the vast majority of City fans love Yaya & it's easy to see why when you look at what he's achieved with us. Wouldn't say he's under appreciated by the fanbase as a whole, just look at someone like Navas for a good example of that.

Well we will have to disagree with that. In my opinion suggesting he should be rested, for our biggest game of the season, for Fernando, who has hardly been a success would suggest his role/importance is unappreciated.

Thankfully both Mancini and Pellers rarely drop him, realising his importance, so we should see him against them lot

Fair enough. He only managed 45 minutes last match though (haven't kept up to date with his fitness updates, guess we'll see more so mid-week) & we saw last year what happened when he wasn't at it - got given a run around by Fellaini of all players. Don't really see how suggesting the fresh legs of Fernando over a potentially half-fit Yaya in a tactical sense is under appreciating him though, for 95% of Citys matches he is one of the first names on the teamsheet, isn't harsh to consider a replacement for the other 5% in my opinion.

Example I'd give is the Juve match, most fans number 1 player in Silva wasn't fully fit & for me we'd have been better off starting someone in his place. Not under appreciating his talents, just a tactical thing on the day.

Saying all this assuming he is passed fit there's no doubt he'll start - also fairly unlikely Fellaini will start so the problem he had last season anyway would likely not re-appear in that sense. Let's hope for another stand out performance from him as he's given them the run around far more than they have to him in the past few years.

He was both an asset and a liability tonight. Hugely influential in both goals but also made us easy to play against. But that's Yaya... got to take the rough with the smooth.
