Don't let the last 10 minutes gloss over what was a very poor performance, against a bang average (albeit in good form) German side. Yaya offered absolutely no protection in terms of positioning, meaning Otamendi and Mangala were constantly having to step out into midfield and take risks. Just watch how many times the two centre backs have to step up, leaving acres of space in behind them because Yaya isn't prepared to cut off the pass into strikers feet. Fernandinho and Delph were left in no man's land because they went out to close players in wide areas and Yaya didn't come across with them, to the point they had to stay more central which left Clichy and Kolarov isolated and outnumbered in wide areas. Disastrous to play Yaya in that role from a defensive point of view.
There's me thinking it should have been the wide forwards (kdb/sterling) who should have been protecting the the fullbacks and fern and Delph covering the middle.
Yaya is not played for his defensive ability. On Saturday we created fook all without him and were lucky to only concede 2.
Some people just don't see it.
As someone has posted Yaya is on a hiding to nothing with some fans no matter what.

Obviously that will not go down well with those who hate Yaya no matter what he does.
Does anybody really hate him though? I think the majority of those giving him a hard time are doing so because they remember the absolute beast from a couple of years ago and are gutted to see him the shadow of that player. He's still got moments of magic in him but they're few and far between.

You'll do well to develop an independent mind rather than follow the band wagon. Did you actually watch the match??? Yaya was massive yesterday. He completed 8 takeons, I saw him slide and win the ball from opponents a couple of times - that's on the defensive side. On the offensive side, he was one of our most influential players and is light years ahead of our other CM players in using the ball. If you are going to blame any one for not supporting the full backs, I think the wide players are more culpable than Yaya. Finally I think you just disgraced yourself with that post and I'm pretty sure you can do better than that. Thank you.

I stopped reading at, "Despite all the excitement surrounding the senior team we can’t forget the City youngsters who did there bit last night!"

Quality.

If you watched the game, you just let me know which wide players you're talking about? Would it be Fernandinho and Delph who had to protect Yaya in the middle or the extremely narrow front 3 of Silva, De Bruyne and Sterling? We only moved Sterling out wide left when Bony and Navas came on, haha!!

Delph and Fernandinho were running about like idiots trying to cover central and wide areas because Yaya was so static, the centre backs were having to step out because he wasn't shielding them and that was a factor in both goals. Before you say he's not picked for his defensive contribution, you play as a team, every man whether it's a defender or striker has defensive responsibilities. No one is knocking his attacking contribution, in terms of the last 10-15 minutes Yaya was back to his best in that respect but you're letting that completely overrule your head in terms of a complete performance over 90 minutes.
