Players made scapegoats and unfairly treated by fans

I recall sitting next to a guy in the main stand who was giving dogs abuse to Richard Edghill before he made a crossfield 30-40 yard assist pass for a great goal. Still no credit just more abuse. So many so called supporters do not have a clue about football. They prefer the vagueries of kick and rush to Peps flexible, effective, skill based tactics.

Lee Bradbury was never a top class footballer. Easy for all to see. I remember the days of kick and rush with Alex Harley.

Reading quickly through this thread I can see keepers have pretty much escaped criticism except for big Joe I have a memory of Keith Mcrae getting it big time and to be honest it is hard to defend him

No it was the perfect storm for fans to dislike him, but of course none of it his own making. He was shocking though, Wiki says 75 Lge games 4 goals.
Remember him scoring a cracking goal for Everton at Maine Road in the early 80s, didn't replicate that for us unfortunately.
Think he's the boss of a football team in America now( by that i obviously mean proper football and not American Football)

I was always at a loss to understand why so many City fans hated Paul Power.
Power may not have been the greatest player ever to pull on our shirt, but he was far from rubbish and he worked his guts out. It used to baffle me.

I think City fans need at least one player to hate. Are all fan bases like this? I started watching us in 64/65 and ever since there has always been at least one player the fans have despised. Currently, it's probably Mendy, but not long ago it was Cancelo and Gundogan.
Always thought Paul Power was a bloody good player for us. The most recent for me was Mangala. Hoped it would work out but most fans thought he was poor. I still think he put the effort in for us, it just didn't work out. I tend to dislike players that don't put the effort in or have tan obvious attitude problem. Tevez was a great player but going on strike sealed his fate for me. City should have binned him. Also remember when we won the FA cup a fan gave him a City scarf to wear as he went to collect his medal . He threw it on the floor, preferring just to wear an Argentinian flag

I can relate to that .
there’s a clown sits behind me and he’s the main cheerleader in a rabble of fans who dote on his every word . Against Arsenal a few seasons back , he was giving Sane dogs abuse all through the first half .
He came back late from the start of the second half demanding to know who had scored .
“That useless prick” was my response . Like water off a ducks back to him , he had no filter . Once Sane became integral , he just shifted his target to another player , be it Raheem, Gundogan, Fern, etc etc . Always , without fail , his target would be non white .
I just used to tell everyone around me that Kev and Foden were bobbins and would never make it .

off the top of my head

Edin Džeko
Aleks Kolarov
Dedryck Boyata
David White
Richard Edghill
Ilkay Gündogan
Riyad Mahrez
Rodri
Raheem Sterling
Shaun Goater
Pablo Zabaleta
Javi García
Eric García

Watching Footballs Darkest Secret documentary I was surprised to hear David White saying how he tried to drown out the boos when his name was read out as they ran on the pitch.

Memories fade over the years but I don't remember Whitey being a target for the boo boys even though his form did seem to suffer after that miss in his only England appearance.
White definitely had plenty of detractors and fans on his back; he could be quite frustrating at times tbf, but nonetheless, I think people who routinely boo or harangue our own players are basically cunts.

Paul Power 100%
I remember the bloke stood next to me on the Kippax at Paul Power's testimonial saying some of his mates had stopped going to City because Paul Power kept getting picked and that they'd be back next season (his testimonial was just after he'd signed for Everton) the fucking sad cunts.

If I ever became that sad, you have my express permission to shoot me in the head.

Paul Power was one of our best players during the 80's
